Anything related to Phyto Chemicals?

So I have Myalgic Encephalomyelitis and Fibromyalgia (maybe they’re both the same) and I tried going all meat three times with no sucess (start was all good up to the point where I ended up in horrible pain and couldn’t bare to eat anything… the last time was the worst)So I went to a nutricionist and I wasn’t expecting her to help me with Carnivore at all but she was willing to study it which is more than you can expect by now… She said the Phyto Chemicals are so important and I’m missiing most of them on a carnivore diet.Do we have anyone talking about Phyto Chemicals related to human health on all meat diet? or do we know something more about it? from Zero Carb Zebras http://bit.ly/2MHSisg via IFTTT

Salmon Roe

I was looking into buying Salmon Roe for the cognitive nutritional benefits. Anyone here eat those things? Where do you source it from? Was searching for wild caught and found 2 really expensive, then this guy: https://www.lokifish.com/collections/flash-frozen-ikuraDidn’t find much else. Also, since the “skeins” are out of stock on the site I provided, the other two options are “cured in small batches with a light salt brine to enhance flavor and preserve quality.” Does anyone know whether the curing contains things I don’t want to be eating on ZC? Any guys here on TRT that needed to adjust how much they inject since starting zerocarb?

I started zerocarb 6 weeks ago and during this time my HCT levels and Hb levels have elevated to the high end of normal. My HCT went from being consistently around 48% for years to jumping to 54% since starting zerocarb. I will be meeting with my doctor in 3 weeks and will discuss with her if I should lower my testosterone dose. Just wondering if anyone here has experienced something similar. Peanut butter for hiccups

Hey all, I’ve been zero carb for about 12 days and feel good. However i kinda have a hiccup problem. Before this I always ate a spoonful of peanut butter and it works 100% of the time. They always go away. Would this have any bad effects? I know it might make me feel like shit but i dont have any other way to get rid of them and they’re pretty bad. But I want to do this diet right and ive had results already. from Zero Carb Zebras http://bit.ly/2Wz1oMp via IFTTT

Been zero carb for 6 months and stopped losing weight after 3 months

I am extremely happy with zero carb. I have more energy. I don’t have IBS. I don’t have cankles anymore. That is worth it for me.But I would love to continue losing weight. I stopped losing weight in my third month and am still in the obese BMI zone. My clothes fit the exact same way that they did after my third month.I eat mostly pork shoulder picnic roasts. I find if I have too much beef I don’t feel well. I do occasionally have a burger with cheese. I drink coffee with coffee mate and splenda. I drink iced tea with splenda. I also occasionally have a handful of salted cashews. I tried in December adding veggies back in but it caused all sorts of symptoms. If I eat too much cream or cheese I get a rash, so I try and limit the cream and cheese. from Zero Carb Zebras http://bit.ly/2t0b9Wq via IFTTT

How do you respond when someone mentions the damaging effects of cattle farms on the environment?

I feel like I’ve seen a headline or snippet somewhere about the damaging environmental effects of mass production in the raising of cattle and cattle farms (Or other massive livestock farms) being over inflated by certain media outlets, but can’t quite remember where. I typically just tell people that the same could be said for the emissions of most modern forms of travel and their damaging effects on the environment. That tends to shut most people up but I just wanted to see what others say in response to this question and if anyone has any sources they could provide. from Zero Carb Zebras http://bit.ly/2MHVFj4 via IFTTT

Why I think this WOE works! (At least for me)

Been carnivore for over two month, and I got to say, it feels f***ing amazing! I was on a low fat high carb diet before, and relied heavily on calorie count. CICO shouldn’t be unfamiliar for many on a standard diet before, and I still do believe in CICO, BUT!!!!! Not the BS number that a website spews at you when you enter your age height activity level etc. We were told to start from that given TDEE number and adjust accordingly until we find the RIGHT maintenance calorie (this usually takes months to reach a decent approximation) and it doesn’t consider our genetics nor good/bad calories. Even we as ourselves don’t know how much calories we need, but there is one thing that knows what your body need the most, it’s [drumroll please] your own body! Hunger is the best indication if your body needs more calories or not, and make it clear that hunger and cravings are not the same. On ZC, we eat when we want and until satiety, making our weight “normalize” (similar to reaching equilibrium)

BCAA flavoring, any suggestions [Question]

Hey everyone, I’m a big fan of taking BCAAs before a workout or run and haven’t really spent too much time worrying about all the artificial sweeteners. I still don’t think its a big issue for me but I have noticed that buying unflavored is more cost effective. So my thought was if I could A.) save a few dollars and B.) get rid of the artificial sweeteners, then why not give it a try? My experience with unflavored BCAAs in the past is that they basically taste horrible and sort of linger for awhile. So I was curious if anyone has any homemade recipes to actually make them taste decent. Worst comes to worst I can just down the serving and chase it with something. But I’ve kind of come to enjoy sipping the BCAA mixture on my walk to the gym and would like to preserve that routine if possible. If anyone has any concoctions, let me know! submitted by /u/das_halfmoon [link] [comments] from paleo diet http://bit.ly/2MGp3WI via IFTTT

[Question] For those of you who use paleo-friendly flours, how do you bake them and not have them turn out dry?

Hey there! I’m new to the paleo diet since my doctor told me to get onto it to help increase my iron intake and reduce exposure to oestrogen/oestrogen-like components. I’ve been using both almond flour and coconut flour recently after some digging around and making sure that there were some alternatives to help me transition onto a paleo diet without feeling like I’m being forced into it. One thing I wanted to do was make some bread to make sandwiches I could eat when on lunch break – I did with both almond and coconut flour. They both held well, but it felt like it took a while to chew and get it down because of how dry they felt. The next thing I did was try making flatbread (only with coconut flour this time around) so that my fiancé and I could have some spinach hamburgers together. So far, the only thing I’ve made that I’ve enjoyed are coconut flour chocolate-chip cookies. They hold really well after cooling, and they don’t leave me wanting to drink two bottles of water after

Noooooo the scale stopped going down!

So I’ve been doing zero carbs/sugar/caffeine for 6 days. Since day one I was losing 1lb a day, except for today. I finally made it to the 150’s which I have been struggling to do for months with working out. So seeing the weight drop daily was really motivating me, especially since I broke the 150’s. I’ve been eating strictly meat and cheese for a week oh and only drinking water and black tea/coffee. I know it’s not really a long time, but for me the time is dragging. I just need reassurance that this happens. It’s not something I did wrong. I went from 167lbs-158lbs in 6 days. Maybe that was just water weight? Idk 😐 help and advice is appreciated!! [Question] About cheating? (Cheese burgers)

I have been doing Paleo for about 8 months. For the first 3 I was super strict, I lost 30 some odd pounds and hit my target of the high 140 to low 150 pounds (~68kilos). Then I backed off and gained about 10 pounds. That was a good wake up call for me. I lost a few pounds since the holidays and need to lose 5 more. Now I am looking for a balance. I love being healthy and feeling healthy. I also love a good cheese burger with a beer. I am asking for an opinion. 3rd day in on Carnivore diet

Hi. Been doing a lot of reading on this diet and decided to take the plunge. Going to try it for at least a month. I tried keto for a couple of months and I couldn’t believe how much better I felt. Aches and pains went away…..I’m 65 but felt like I was 30 again. I read a book about eating right for your blood type about 12 yrs ago. I’m type A which means……no meat. I’m not sure if I believe. He says that all Paleolithic period humans were type O’s. A’s came around the Neolithic Period as an adaptation to living with agriculture. Basically, O’s are meat eaters and A’s are not. I was wondering if there are any members here on this Carnivore diet who are Type A’s? And how is it going? I’ve been eating steak every day and am feeling surprising good. I had been expecting a rough time considering I had been eating bad for a while. Lots of sweets and breads, etc. from Zero Carb Zebras http://bit.ly/2DLvyEZ via IFTTT

Is a cheese+eggs only diet harmful long-term?

Hi,I used to eat a varied keto diet of meat, fish, cheese, eggs, broccoli, cauliflowers and spinach. I can no longer use the kitchen in my accommodation (apart from boiling eggs), therefore I had to cut on all veggies and cooked meat. The cold cuts of meat that I find at the supermarket are quite high in carbs (3 to 7 g per 100g). Therefore, beside eggs, the only zero-carb food that I can eat is mature cheese. In practice, I’ve been eating 400g of mature cheese + 3 to 5 eggs a day. It’s boring A.F. but it fills my stomach.I wonder if there could be long term harmful consequences if I keep on with this diet. Also, in terms of nutrients, how do eggs and cheese different from red meat? Thanks from Zero Carb Zebras http://bit.ly/2DJnW60 via IFTTT

[Discussion] Not noticing any difference in my kid

My now school-aged kid has been paleo since birth, as far as I can control it, but admittedly with a lot of sabotage from the outside, mainly other parents, and sometimes her dad and grandparents. In any case she eats far less sugar, processed foods and junk than her friends, most of whom eat candy, ice cream and donuts every day, have regular pizza nights and refuse to eat vegetables. I don’t see any difference however, as my kid is now smaller than the others and even has cavities, despite a good tooth brushing routine. Her friends seem to be developing well and are doing just as well in school and in their other activities. They are also on a more even keel than my own kid in terms of temperament. I understand that everyone is different. Should I even be comparing? I’m still curious as to whether paleo is having any real effect. submitted by /u/trackspotter [link] [comments] from paleo diet http://bit.ly/2Uw45wH via IFTTT

6 Month update, still going strong

My previous post, here, I was barely 3 weeks in. At that point I was already amazed by the lifting of my depression. I expressed some concern as to the longevity of this depression cure because all other “solutions” to my depression have never lasted. I was very anxious to see how I’d feel a few months down the line. Now, having passed my 6 month mark, I have no regrets. This has changed my entire life unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. I am now controlling my life for, what seems like, the first time ever. Each month I feel better mentally and physically. It hasn’t been a complete linear progression, but at the very least my setbacks are more like stalls rather than huge rock bottom suicidal moments like I experienced frequently prior to zero carb. The trend is definitely a steep rise upwards, though. I’m no longer anxious about whether or not I’ll be able to stick to this WOE long term and continue to reap the benefits. How good (accurate/sensitive) is the body at requesting more fuel through appetite after energy expenditure?

Been on ZC off and on for 3 months, full time since 12/31/18. Initially my appetite was insanely high. I would eat between 3 and 4lbs of meat a day plus sometimes multiple eggs and cheese just to feel satisfied. Then it died down a bit but I still eat a ton of meat. Maybe 2.5lbs of meat and 6 eggs or so on average.I’ve noticed on days when I deadlift and squat my appetite is absolutely bonkers for 24-36 hours. Much higher than other work outs. I almost feel as if I cannot ever be full which is how I felt during my first ~10 days. I’m not sure if this is all psychological or coincidence or if I’m actually that much hungrier on those days. I basically eat when hungry until I’m full no matter what, but was just curious if anyone had any information on how accurate appetite/hunger sensations are in relation to need for energy. from Zero Carb Zebras http://bit.ly/2DFs5aQ via IFTTT

Parmigiano - nutrient dense cheese

Just changing it up a bit and talking about cheese instead of meat. I copied the paragraphs on nutrition here though because I thought they were probably the most interesting to people here.Italy’s practically Perfect FoodTraditionally, mothers gave rinds of Parmigiano to their teething babies. Even today, it’s prescribed in Italy to the old, the young, the sick. Because the good bacteria gobble up the cheese’s lactose, 26-month-old Parmigiano is safe for the lactose-intolerant. Thanks to that same breakdown of bonds, it’s also easier to digest, its proteins and nutrients are easier to absorb.“Meat proteins need to be broken down into amino acids, which takes four hours for beef,” Bertinelli explained. “But thanks to the natural process of Parmigiano, they’re already broken down, so it only takes 45 minutes.” That means Parmigiano is

Carnivore for depression w/uneven progress

Like many folks here I came to the carnivore diet to try to effect my mental health - about ten years worth of depression with mixed results on meds (some worked great and then pooped out). I’ve been carnivore for 8 weeks now with only exception olives, some cheese about week 4 (which made me break out), and some macadamia nuts in the last week. At week 5-6 I started to feel really good and even cut down to about a third of my med dose. In week 7 I felt a lot of the old rotten feelings again and especially light-headedness. Wondering what experience others have had and/or advice. Also losing more weight than I’m comfortable with at this point. from Zero Carb Zebras http://bit.ly/2Rpj1KO via IFTTT

How much protein?

When I was on Keto I ate 80grams of protein per day, I think 100-120 grams of protein per day is enough for carnivore to compensate for the veggies on keto. What is your opinion? No I do not want to consume 300gram of protein per day as some people do. 140 grams top, no more. Will I become deficient now in nutrients because that is not enough meat?No I do not want to eat ”until Im full and satisfied” when it comes to protein. 500-700 grams of meat is enough on the carnivore diet, that is not little, but is it enough to be healthy on in your opinion?100-300 grams of fat also, not more. 300 is a little much, but 100-200 then maybee. Please give me your opinion on my protein intake.First of all I cant afford 200-300 grams of protein because Im on a budget. Then it has to be veggies and less meat. from Zero Carb Zebras http://bit.ly/2DFW0zD via IFTTT

Sparkling water farts

Has anyone else had an issue with sparkling water? I don’t really mind the farts it conjures up, and frankly sometimes it’s nice to have them back. Otherwise, this woe all but eliminated them. That said, I’m concerned maybe it’s somewhat disruptive to the gut lining and the healing process. FYI I originally started this diet due to an autoimmune condition and stayed for the unexpected mental health benefits. from Zero Carb Zebras http://bit.ly/2DH2Rck via IFTTT

Do any of you have experience with fasting?

I’ve done zero carb, meat only before and felt fantastic. Mental clarity like I didn’t think possible. I thought it was the ADD medication. Fast forward a few years to the present and I’m fasting for the same effects I had forgotten about from zerocarb years ago. Mental clarity like I wouldn’t believe, as well as lowered inflammation and general feelings of calm. No ADD meds this time.People in r/fasting sometimes overlap with the r/keto and r/zerocarb communities, and it makes perfect sense why. Logically, from what I know, the mental clarity should feel similar, and maybe there’s not even that much of a difference. This is why I ask if any of you have experience with fasting. I’d love to know how the two compare anecdotally. from Zero Carb Zebras http://bit.ly/2UqkUJg via IFTTT

Advice needed

Ive had a real bad sugar tooth. Been trying to get rid of it for a while and it’s one of the main reasons why I eat zero carb . I always fall of the wagon and end up eating a bunch of carbage. I understand it’s a cycle I’m stuck in. I’m curious if anyone that has struggled with carbs has been able to break free and what helped them or anyone else that has any tips or advice so I can stay ZC and reach my goals. Fell off the wagon.

Using the Holidays as an excuse I started eating carbs again and boy did I go to town. Gained 25 lbs and all the ailments I had before came back (Scalp folliculitis, brain fog, trouble getting up in the morning and other things).Started again 3 days ago (steak, chicken, eggs, bacon) and already lost a few lbs.Question is will it be as hard to adapt as the first time I did it? Or is my body already used to such a drastic change in diet. Thanks for reading. from Zero Carb Zebras http://bit.ly/2Wsisnx via IFTTT

Zerocarb Food boredom, how do you cope?

Homemade Bone Broth

So I tried making my first bone broth starting yesterday with a large femur-looking beef bone cut up into smaller equal pieces by my butcher. I threw it in the crock pot with water, salt, pepper, and 1 other seasoning with 2-3 herbs/spices in it andddd 24 hours later half on low, half on high, I can’t stomach it lol. Does your bone broth taste good or was it an acquired taste?Perhaps mine is worse because of all the fat that was attached to the bone (I have it in fridge and plan to scoop out fat at top tomorrow). Or maybe the 10 tbsp’s of collagen powder I added. from Zero Carb Zebras http://bit.ly/2MEqllk via IFTTT

Would doing a low-carb/high-fat diet for a little while make the transition to zero-carb easier?

I’ll be honest, I currently eat lots of carbs and have done so my whole life (however I am skinny and very low body fat). I tried doing keto awhile back and the keto flu absolutely wrecked me. My 2019 goal is to eventually be 100% zero carb.I’m curious if doing low-carb and high-fat for a couple months before making the full leap will make the transition easier. While doing low-carb/high-fat, would my body start using some fat for fuel, or would the existence of any carbs at all prevent my body from utilizing dietary fat at all for fuel? If the former is true, then presumably my metabolism will slowly become more flexible, but if it’s the latter, then I’d just be wasting my time and probably have less energy during that time for nothing. I’m curious if anyone here has some knowledge on this. Thank you! from Zero Carb Zebras http://bit.ly/2Tf86Fo via IFTTT

Been on Carnivore for one month...no results?

Hello, I’ve been on the carnivore diet for one month. I’m doing this diet to get healthy and lose weight (part of getting healthy). So far this first month I’ve lost about 20 pounds. Should weight loss be faster? I’ve seen posts or YT videos where the person lost more than that in 30 days. So, I guess my question is how long does it take to lose significant weight? On the diet I’ve had meat (usually beef as I’ve found that pork does not seem to agree with me and chicken does not seem to fill me up), eggs, Sharp cheddar cheese, water, coffee and an occasional diet soda. I have not had any sugar in anything or on anything. Thanks in advance for your answers. from Zero Carb Zebras http://bit.ly/2TjLgN5 via IFTTT

[Question] Anyone got a good paleo recipe for large amounts of organ meat?

I get my meat from a farmer buddy, mostly chickens, sheep and goat. I slaughter myself and don’t like to waste anything. But my freezer is piling up with unused organ meats because I can only choke down so much. Of course I could make a non paleo organ meat pie, or make pate, but I eat fairly strictly paleo/primal. I was pointed here to ask about sugar addiction [Other]

Hello, I was pointed here with a question about my husband and his total disengagement in our family. A little back story, just before Thanksgiving, my husband quit eating most of the sugar he was eating (Come to find out he was eating a bag or 2 of gummies a day and as many as 12 sodas I did not know he was on this much sugar) and he stared drinking water like a gallon a day (he never drank any water before he would say “thats for washing and flushing, or there is water in my coffee/soda) This seemed like an excellent step. But he lost an alarming amount of weight from about 160 to 120 or 130 (although he wont let me know his exact weight now) he is 5'10 tall But now he has kind of given up on everything and is ok just sitting, wont try going to the gym or DR. you can read my original post in my profile So I was told in a response that this sub could tell me about some kind of "sugar hangover” He has not cut it 100% still puts 4 packets in his 24oz coffee every morning.

I know how many calories are in beef and mutton tallow (9 per gram, same as fat), but I couldn’t find the nutrition data for just the fat trimmings (like what you would request from the butcher).I assume it contains fewer fat calories per gram than pure tallow because of water loss, but would like a more precise figure if possible. Nauseous after too much fat?

I’ve tried finding an answer on this sub, but this symptom seems unique to me so far. Wondering if anyone else has experienced this.Been eating a 70% meat diet for 3 months now (other 30% is cheese and whole fruit). There are times when I’ll eat a really big, meat-and-fat only meal and feel satisfied at first. Then, an hour or two later, I get this intense nausea and heaviness in my stomach, like I just ate a whole cow. I feel like I’m gunna be sick for half an hour, then the feeling goes away. No runs on the other end, though.Anyone else experience this? Do you know why? Am I eating too much fat at once? Or just eating too muchin general? Bathroom room visits shortly after meals.

6 ½ months in and for the past month, within 30 mins of eating, my stomach rumbles and I have diarrhea. This started about a month ago when I tried to incorporate eggs and experienced gastro cramping.I’ve had diarrhea pretty much every time since starting this woe, but it was hours after eating that I’d have to go. In the first month I wouldn’t go for days though I was consuming much more meat(4lbs).Not sure what’s going on though I suspect it’s the fat though I cut out adding tallow before this showed up.It does not happen after eating salmon or drinking raw milk. It does occur after ribeyes and ny strips(80% of my calories). I decided to add ox bile 2 weeks ago and still no relief. Also noticed my poop has had a blondish color 50% of the time for the past 3-4 weeks.Anyone have other ideas of what could be going on? Guy has been a little iffy since starting ZC... Question for experienced ZC'ers

Hi all,Started ZC about three weeks ago for a variety of reasons but mostly the combination of gut health and weight loss. A gluten intolerance lead me to keto and I did very well it in both gut health and weight loss. Fell off the wagon a couple times. This time around, getting back in the swing of things I wanted to go ZC. Only thing is I’ve been experiencing loose stools to the point I wanted to ask other people publicly why that might be. I’m eating meat and some dairy. Daily coffee which I’ve done for ever. I did cut out alcohol with the transition. And I’ve increased my water intake quite a bit. Any thoughts given this info on why I might be having some gi issues? Thanks in advance! from Zero Carb Zebras http://bit.ly/2RkujzZ via IFTTT

My experience and a question at the end

My actual question is in the last paragraph but I provided a lot of background info to give context. I am going on 7 months ZCA few years ago I had several mild health issues that included constant gas, low energy (took a nap after work everyday), a white scab on the top of my ear that never went away (it would flake off and grow back), a freckle that would get darker and harder then fall off when picked at and then slowly grow back, dished toenails, severe dry eyes right on waking, violent leg twitches in the middle of the night, and my hair was graying a little faster than family members my age or older. My diet was extremely poor (3 sodas/day, lots of candy, dairy, and processed food). I didn’t view these as serious problems and blamed them on aging. I had been taught growing up not to be a hypochondriac. At that point I consulted Dr. Google and it seemed that I probably had several nutrient deficiencies and possibly a candida overgrowth in my gut. At that time I bought several supp
