1 month in with bad diarrhoea (have Ulcerative Colitis)

Hi All,I’ve been ZC for one month now. I’ve been eating mostly beef (some occasional chicken), eggs and tea. I’ve always been allergic to dairy and usually drank coconut milk or almond milk but being on this diet I’ve switched over to lactose free milk, cream and ghee. I’ve had Ulcerative Colitis (UC) for about 15 years now. Before I started this diet I was eating LC and my UC was the best it had been in years. I was hesitant to mess with my diet when I was in such a good state but I don’t want to be on medication for the rest of my life and after reading a lot of positive stories of people with UC going ZC I decided to give it a go.However, one month in and I still have really bad diarrhoea! I noticed a few weeks ago that if I had too much ghee it seemed to make it worse so I cut back on ghee, lactose free milk and cream. However, then I started to get really tired and my brain felt fried/ I was finding it hard to concentrate. Yesterday I tried adding more fat back in and I had horrib

I started keto about 5 days ago to lose weight and improve my mental health. I am 100% convinced now that I want to just go full ZC and join the tribe. Update for weight-gainers!

F 48, 5’7, 137 going on 6 mo zerocarb. It’s very scary when you start gaining weight right away on zerocarb! Many women who have previously restricted calories do in fact gain weight initially, and it happened to me. I was horrified, because I’d suffered so much to get down to that weight! And the thought of my weight going the opposite direction was just excruciating for me. So I began researching through the files on this and other forums, and found myself wondering what ever happened to all those women reporting gaining weight? Did they ever end up losing it? Did they panic, give up and quit ZC? What ended up happening to them?So this post is for anyone who wondered what happens to the gainers? We all know Kelly Hogan gained, then lost it all and then some.,. But is she the exception? What about everyone else? She’s the only one you ever really hear about! (At least that’s how I felt) so I promised myself if I ever lost the weight I gained, I would report back. So here’s how it went

[Question] is it okay to eaaaaase into Paleo?

Hi, I’m new here. I recently learned about the Paleo diet and it speaks to me bc it’s seemingly fairly simple to know what you’re allowed to eat, and what you’re not allowed to eat, without doing any crazy math, or label researching, or anything. (Let me know if that’s a fair assessment). If you can’t hunt it or grow it, then you can’t eat it, right? Anyhow, I was wondering if anyone knows of any resources (websites, etc) that can show someone how to ease into this. Currently, my diet is embarrassingly bad. I work a hellacious and roller coaster-like schedule, so much of my eating is convenience-based and/or binge-type eating after a whole day of not being able to grab anything. Anyhow, I hope this request makes sense, but mostly I’m looking forward to learning here. submitted by /u/Dara_Lecht [link] [comments] from paleo diet https://ift.tt/2RqzcYH via IFTTT

Not happy with my body fat levels, what are your tips for getting lean?

I would ask in meatogains but that place is a ghost town. Around the love handles area and a little bit on the stomach I have a lot of fat lately. What are your tips for getting lean enough for abs to show on this diet? I know i’m not getting get ripped or jacked without working out. At this moment every time i try lifting weights or running I get fucked up. I can only run about 2 miles before my knee hurts 3 times a week. I’ve seen people claim miracles with carnivore. Is it possible that my diet has been so shitty that my tendons, lean muscle, and bones have gotten so weak they can’t take abuse? I dont think I have eaten that bad but then again idk what a good diet is anymore after researching keto/fasting/vegan/carnivore/paleo.Has anyone had a body transformation from meat only? I’m tired of being injured all the time. People are like its aches and pains from growing up but i’m only fucking 30 I shouldnt feel this delicate. I see dudes OHP 100lbs and it makes my fucking bones hurt. I’m tired of that. I miss lifting heavy, doing sprints, rough housing with my friends. Herxheimer Die Off reaction help.

So Ive been Carnivore for about 3 months now. Initially did wonders for me. Then mid way my histamine reactions would be more intense to any type of source and then started including mild reaction from different meat sources. I assumed this was from Candida as I fit all the symptoms. I feel as if most people who start and do wonders on carnivore have underlying micro biome/bacteria issues. So i started taking traditional anti fungals like garlic, coconot oil and even worm wood tea. Straight away - BOOM. Next day. -Muscle fatigue, flu like symptoms, constant low-medium nausea, depression. Kept going for 3 days but just couldnt do it with work so I backed off. Symptoms still stayed but were slightly less. Then started again a few days ago cus i got another histamine reaction from some chuck steak and was just pissed off and wanted to get rid of it even tho I still hadnt fully recovered so I started up again. Now I cant even go to work I feel so weak.Literally all this just from what I men

How much to trust my body re: nutrients

If I feel generally good all the time on this diet and don’t have any obvious physical symptoms of malnutrition, is there still a chance that I’m missing out on essential nutrients by not regularly consuming organ meat? My diet consists of rare steak, rare (in the middle) ground beef patties, eggs, butter, hard cheese, and some deli meat from time to time.I very rarely will fry up some chicken livers, but it always seems like a waste because they never fill me up and I don’t really enjoy cooking or eating them. And it’s not like I feel super energized with vitamins and nutrients afterwards either. Could I just be getting everything I need from the beef and eggs, which is what my body seems to be saying, or should I still try to sneak in more offal? from Zero Carb Zebras https://ift.tt/2OcTd2Z via IFTTT

Noob question - histamine intolerance.

Sorry if it’s a question that’s already been answered, but am I right in thinking that histamines in meat are only a problem if I already have a histamine intolerance? Or is it the case of having high histamines in a meat heavy diet CAUSES the intolerance? I’ve checked a few sources that have given different or unclear answers. I’m thinking about going ZC/Carni soon with staples being eggs and ground beef (I’m on a budget and hate cooking) and I’d like to know how much of an issue this could be as I know these are high in histamines. from Zero Carb Zebras https://ift.tt/2Ss54h0 via IFTTT

Hi,I am now zerocarb for 30 days. Lost 5 kilos the first week, mostly water, no weight movement since. Fasting blood glucose was about 120 on October 1, this morning 122. I’ve been a carnivore almost like 95% for 3 months now. In the beginning 2.5 months I had dairy on&off. Then dairy caused me a few eczema flare ups, so I decided to completely cut it off. For the last 2 weeks I’ve been a strict carnivore; beef, salmon, eggs and a bit of liver along with incorporating IF. I was expecting to feel great but instead I’m feeling crappy, no energy, feeling fatigued, no motivation to exercise, no good performance at gym. First zero carb hunting trip in the bag

I’ve been hunting for the past few days, and usually that includes a variety of foods I don’t eat anymore. Sandwiches for lunch, trail mix, sugary jerky, and of course beer around the fire. This time I made sure I had a supply of pemmican, sardines, and pork rinds. It worked great. I no longer have the snacking urges I used to, so didn’t feel like I needed to be munching all the time. Delayed Keto Flu ?

Most of the references I’ve seen to Keto Flu state it starts, if at all, soon after the start of the diet.I started around a month ago and apart from a few days diarrhea early on I’ve had no negative effects until last Thursday I developed stomach ache, which I never get, mid afternoon which slowly got worse and by the evening I was getting hot / cold flushes which also got worse into Saturday. No blocked nose or other symptoms I associate with cold / flu. Feeling better by Sunday and 100% now.So I wondered if it was Keto Flu ? The only other thing I thought possible was food poisoning but no diarrhea or even the hint of vomiting mean I doubt this.Eating mainly steak, pork belly, homemade burgers & sausages, eggs , cheese, salt, pepper, homemade mustard and occasionally a tiny bit of chilli sauce. [Discussion] Fat adaption: ran my last marathon of the season a week ago taking in ~100 calories

I went paleo more than a year ago to help with endurance running. I believed I was struggling with “bonking” after the 2-3 hour point in my runs (and bike rides back when that was my main sport). I’d heard reducing my carb intake and training my body to prefer fat-as-fuel could work. I learned something I didn’t expect as a result: my main enemy to endurance may not have been bonking at all. Instead, I seem to have been suffering hyponatremia . To save you a click it just means having too much water and not enough salt/electrolytes in your system. I was guzzling water. That can be seriously dangerous and some argue worse so than dehydration for endurance events. I ran three marathon+ distances this summer: a 50K trail run, a 27 mile trail run and a 26.2 mile city marathon. For each event my general intake of food and liquid has gone down. I estimate I took in about 1,500 calories, 1,000 calories and 100 calories for each event respectively. That last count was me testing a theory:

I’ve seen lots of posts on the many benefits of ZC, some of which I’ve experienced myself. Mood stabilization alone makes it worth it for me, as I’m sure anyone with depression and anxiety can attest to. I’ve been doing this for just about 4 months. However I can’t say I love what I eat. Rendered fat does not agree with me, so ground beef is tough unless I add cheese. I like the taste of burgers from my Whole Foods (75/25), but not the ones from Costco (78/22). Slow cooked meats like chuck have the rendered fat problem, but the taste of chuck steaks is too bloody, for lack of a better word, plus they’re super tough. Ribeyes are ok, but too expensive for me to eat often.I’m not crazy about chicken or pork, and I’m less comfortable with how they’re raised as compared to cows. Seafood is fine as supplemental food, but it’s not fatty enough. Eating too much leaves me feeling off. Nausea hits if I stray from a fairly narrow eating pattern. I’m frequently thirsty despite a low salt intake but

Cookbooks and recipes [other]

Hello, I’m pretty new to cooking and recipes. I’m 23, fresh out of college and looking to have a tastier meals and learn to cook more things. I’ve been paleo for a while now but my meals are just meat and vegetables. Does anyone have any good blogs or good cookbooks or recipes they like to share? I’m only cooking for me, so if you have any recipes please only share freezer storage friendly since I usually have a lot of leftovers. Also any recommendations on protein shakes or powders? I’m finding it very hard to fit a full breakfast in and I’m not sure if I have enough diversity in my diet for all the necessary nutrition. Shakes are easiest for me, anything premade similar to ensure or soylent is best but I’ll take powder recommendations too. Any other general advice/stories/processes are welcome too!!! Weird Rash

I’ve been doing this WOE for 31 days now and I have developed a rash on both of my armpits. Its a series of small red bumps that have just recently started to become itchy. All I eat is ground beef 20/80, beef trimmings, and salt. I wonder if this is a histamine reaction, a keto rash? or maybe something just bad leaving my body. Does any one have any understanding of why this happens or has anyone else had this and resolved it? from Zero Carb Zebras https://ift.tt/2zb0s6g via IFTTT

[Question] Weird anxiety/thoughts I'm dying, when trying to eat clean

I did intermittent fasting in the past on normal food, at first I was eating 2-3 bowls of food in my 1 hour window, but then 3 sandwitches were enough - and I felt fine - I only mention this to provide some data and my question is about eating from all day, not about IF. So when I want to restart eating healthy for the n-th time, I become so weak, I’m actually thinking I’m dying (I KNOW in my mind it’s totally stupid idea, but anxiety is stronger than that). It doesn’t matter if it’s high fat, high carb, high protein, I just feel like dying. My only theory is it has something to do with lack of good taste (I’d rather eat 100g of deli meat than four steaks, because fried meat is just almost tasteless). Of course I can’t interview a dead person, but I totally feel that is how would dying person know he will die soon. My only question - anyone had something similar? It can’t be low carb flu, because fruits don’t help, and they’re high in carbs of course. submitted by /u/RedwallAllra

Salt?

Hi everyone. I have read through some posts on salt. Right now I fell naturally into omad and adf now and then with zero. However, noticed when I upped my salt intake, I had some really bad reactions.Just curious if adding salt is truly necessary? I also think it made me eat more when I was truly full. Just interested in your thoughts. from Zero Carb Zebras https://ift.tt/2OQU7Ye via IFTTT

Garlic. A mystery.

ZC certainly put this common herb in perspective for me.. If a person as eaten any amount of garlic I can smell it from their skin and breath at a distance of probably 20 metres. And it lingers. The other day I was at a local Nature Reserve and met an old couple in the middle of nowhere. The garlic is a punch in nose of course while having a chat but the interesting thing is that I could smell him on the path where he walked 20 minutes prior. Perhaps he spit or peed on the ground. But I literally felt like a god damn bloodhound. So what’s the mystery? I am contemplating the cultural significance of garlic. Being associated with protection against predatory cannibals (supposed vampires, werewolves). Is garlic a way to make your meat/blood so bad/toxic that predators don’t want it? from Zero Carb Zebras https://ift.tt/2RgJpXN via IFTTT

Women following Zerocarb

90 days in, experiencing a little bit of flatulence.

It’s crazy how in tune with your body you become with this WOE. This whole time I’ve very rarely had to fart, which is great, but the past week or two I’ve had a minor amount of gas. Nothing like before, though. I’m very curious about it because I haven’t changed my foods at all. The only thing I can think of is that everyone around me seems to be getting sick as the weather changes and maybe it’s my gut biome fighting off virus/sickness? I haven’t felt sick, though. Or maybe I’ve reached a point where it’s triggering more changes in my gut? Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks. from Zero Carb Zebras https://ift.tt/2PsN3jY via IFTTT

I've solved my meat smelling problem!

I love zero carb(I’ve been at it about 2 months) but I live in a small apartment and cooking on the stove or in the oven would make both my apt and my clothes reek of meat/fish! Plus the smoke alarm goes off every time I cook ribeye on the cast iron skillet. I bought an air fryer and I love it! The steak isn’t as good as when I cook it on the cast iron but worth it not to smell and it’s not a terrible taste. Also clean up is so easy! Hope this helps anyone with a similar issue :) from Zero Carb Zebras https://ift.tt/2z3d6E4 via IFTTT

[Blogspam]"People like what they eat rather than eat what they like"

While reading Fat of The Land recently, I came across a quote that really made me think. “People like what they eat rather than eat what they like” My workplace is very multicultural and the majority of each nationality continues to eat foods prepared similarly to that of how they grew up. Even going as far as purchasing imported goods, disregarding quality for familiar branding. It makes sense to say, that which is familiar to us is what directs what we eat. We don’t easily draw the connection between health and diet because we’ve never had to. Typically all we’ve had to do is follow our instincts. In modern society this leads us down the wrong track because every industry that sells consumables will do whatever they can to get you to buy their product. Unfortunately there are mechanisms within us that can be hijacked into over-consuming junk (processed sugar). So now we’re a population who’ve grown up eating in ways that is incompatible with optimal health. I like to think that

No more Stevia addiction

I used to use Stevia like every day and quit when going carnivorous three months ago. I added some to my vodka and cherry bubbly when drinking tonight and it just made it taste worse and fake. I enjoyed some beef I had in my crock pot instead of the junk I got my friends and loved it so much more. At first I thought I missed sweeteners but now I’d much rather just eat some beef. from Zero Carb Zebras https://ift.tt/2RgGZs8 via IFTTT

Can't handle the fat? Help!

So I’ve been on the carnivore diet for about two months. I have had my gall bladder removed, and am taking bile pills to help digest except it’s not doing any good. I run to the bathroom the minute I’m done eating. In the last week I’ve switched to chicken breast, shrimp, turkey (low fat meats) and have been having less issues (but I still do have them, just less frequently). Am I destined to eat like this forever or should I not eat this way? :(Any advice? Thank you so much. from Zero Carb Zebras https://ift.tt/2SpkmTA via IFTTT

How long after you eat something does the histamine reaction kick in?

Ate some leftover chicken breast 4 or 5 hours ago and then freshly prepared beef liver like half an hour ago. I am experiencing a bad reaction right now. Indigestion/Acid Reflux

I’m about 2 months into zerocarb (water, beef, salt version) and I swapped to ground beef to try and cut costs. The ground beef clearly didn’t agree with me and I started to get indigestion/acid reflux. It seems to have persisted even after going back to NY strip. I have IBS and the information on histamine intolerance caught my attention. I’m also sensitive to liquid fats so I’m going to try sticking with lean flank steaks for a bit to see if that has an effect.Does anyone else have any advice on this one? Sounds like the solution if it is histamine is freeze my meat, reverse sear all of the days food in the morning, and don’t reheat it after that. If it’s too much fat, we’ll see what the flank steaks do over the next 2 weeks. from Zero Carb Zebras https://ift.tt/2SmBoSn via IFTTT

Fellow carb lovers – how long until your cravings subsided?

I’ve just started a full-on carnivore diet (NO dairy, NO eggs, just meat and salt) and am now on Day 11 (haven’t cheated at all). I’m male and in my mid-40s, and my main motivation for trying this diet is curiosity to see if it improves my sleep, which has been terrible my whole adult life. This has lead to issues with poor focus and concentration. I’m in excellent shape, and do NOT want to lose any weight. I have done keto a few times in the past, but was not doing it immediately prior to starting carnivore.I’ve always loved processed carbs (pizza, pasta, ice cream, anything with dark chocolate, etc.), but have also been pretty good at moderating my consumption of them. However since starting this diet a week and a half ago, my cravings have been pretty intense.I think a big part of it for me is that I’ve never been a big meat-eater. I love meat on pizzas, in tacos, and in curries or stir-fries, but I’ve never been one to crave a steak or a pork chop. I much prefer it to be combined w

[Discussion] Colors of Liver

I just wanted to give a tip about eating liver. I’ve noticed that the beef liver I buy is sometimes colored differently. If I buy it frozen from the supermarket, it is almost always a red or dark red color and it doesn’t taste as good to me. So lately I’ve bought some from the farmer’s market that is fresh and the color has always been a dark maroon color (no red that I can see). This liver that is maroon-colored tastes better to me. (I still can’t eat a whole slice in one sitting, but maybe someday). I was thinking that maybe the red color of the frozen liver means that the iron in the liver has oxidized (so the red would be like rust) and maybe that is why I don’t like the taste of it and maybe others have the same problem. Maybe we naturally pick up that the meat is no longer good and so we are averse to the taste of oxidation. This week I am back to the frozen liver, however, because I can’t make it to the farmer’s market… blah! submitted by /u/Smokey_Quartz_Girl [link] [comm

[BlogSpam] Paleo Balsamic Beef Roast

Beef, when paired with a side of vegetables can be a nutritious source of protein. This Balsamic Beef Roast is juicy, meaty, and it is an easy to make recipe. All you need is a good beef roast, a slow cooker, and a few more ingredients. Balsamic vinegar is a versatile ingredient that enhances the flavor of foods. When added to red meat, it will enhance the meatiness of beef and help tenderize it. Balsamic vinegar is made from grapes, which explains the dark purple color. It is quite easy to find at the supermarket, but if you struggle to do so you order it online. The balsamic beef roast is loaded with flavor as well as nutrients. Beef is rich proteins, vitamins, minerals, and collagen. Collage helps improve our hair, skin, ligaments, and joints. Beef contains a high amount of collagen. More details on beef and collagen can be found in this research paper compilation. One serving of balsamic beef roast should provide about 850 mg of collagen. Macros for one serving (4 oz or 110 g)
