Saw a "Carnivore Bar" on Kickstarter. This seems really cool to me! Any thoughts?

I’ve tried making my own Pemmican at home for a backpacking trip, and I wasn’t really pleased with the results. It was edible, but tasted pretty terrible. I love the idea that this is all ready made, and perfect for travel. My relationship with milk (n=1)

I’m of portuguese, italian and british ascent. I was raised drinking large amounts of milk with chocolate powder.Growing up I had lots of skin problems and dermatitis. I use to be somewhat of a mouth breather and had plenty of rashes around my bending areas, but these got better with age as I don’t have the “mouth breather skull deformation”. When I was a teenager my acne was so bad I had to take accutane to avoid skin damage.I have been carnivore for over 8 months now and not looking back. However, I do have a curious/troubled relationship with milk.I can drink milk straightup faster than water and I love it. It feels amazing. I can seriously drink over 1L in matters of minutes. Oddly enough, it has a constipatory effect on me.Through these 8 months I stayed about 45 days milk-less. And I was fine, but I was so happy when I got back into it. Milk is really refreshing to me.However, lately I have been getting some weird tiny blisters on my body. For some reason I tend to think it is th

Watch how plant cells eject raphides (needle-shaped oxalate crystals) under microscope

https://youtu.be/s8FdV20BkiY?t=74Raphides are needle-shaped crystals of calcium oxalate, found in more than 200 families of plants. Both ends are needle-like, but raphides tend to be blunt at one end and sharp at the other.Little is known about the mechanisms of sequestration or indeed the reason for accumulation of raphides but it is most likely a defense mechanism against herbivory. It has also been suggested that in some cases raphides may help form plant skeletal structure. Raphides typically occur in parenchyma cells in aerial organs especially the leaves, and are generally confined to the mesophyll. As the leaf area increases, so does the number of raphides, the process starting in even young leaves. The first indications that the cell will contain crystals is shown when the cells enlarge with a larger nucleus.Raphides can produce severe toxic reactions by facilitating the passage of toxin through the herbivore’s skin when the tissue containing the raphides also contains toxins.

Liver Function/Metabolic Syndrome

Robert Lustig - Metabolic Syndrome - YouTube videoTLDR; Metabolic Syndrome = mitochondrial overload = health problemsFructose is toxic and causes the liver to work very hard and causes metabolic syndrome and fatty liver.Branched chain amino acids (meat) also strain the liver in similar fashion.Fiber helps reduce hepatic flux. Fiber reduces the amount of fructose and glucose that liver has to process. It also feeds the bacteria in the gut biome, which is also important for protecting the liver (?).I was enthusiastic about this talk until the end where he began saying that BCAAs in meat can also stress the liver and that fiber is important. Then I started wondering if my liver is alright…ㅜㅜ from Zero Carb Zebras https://ift.tt/2U8BNwu via IFTTT

I am turning into a caveman...

As many here I have been keto previously until finally transitioning into 99% carnivore (i sometimes like onions). Also been doing IF / OMAD for almost 2 years, so I am well fat adapted and feel absolutely amazing on this woe. With what I have learned about Nutrition and my own body, I simply cannot go back to eating any other diet. But I realized I am turning more and more into a caveman. I don’t use shampoo for hair anymore, no deoderant because I smell less etc. This is all nice, but I have also noticed my will to go out and socialize has decreased significantly. I am very extroverted and I love meeting new people, but it’s a great hassle meeting a group of people who don’t follow this woe. They go to some shit bar, order food, drinks that I am not interested in etc… Now I live in Japan where you usually split the bill no matter who orders what in a group, so it’s always a weird interaction. So I was just wondering whether you guys experienced something similar? Do you go out less?

Newcomer to carnivore diet and fat loss. Is eating till full truly better for weight/fat loss??

I’ve been doing carnivore for about a week now and I have some questions. Just for background I’m 21 male 190lbs around 15-16%bf and coming from a bodybuilding type diet HCLF and bodybuilding type training. Traditionally I do bulk/cut cycles and I just finished a bulk cycle about a month ago. Carnivore interested me because of the claims of appetite regulation and weight/fat loss. I recognized I had a problem where all I would think about between meals is food. I have a giant appetite as well. I understand that the motto is eat when hungry and eat till full. It’s weird for me cause I come from counting macros and counting everything I eat but I’ve been doing it for a week now and absolutely zero weight loss has occurred. I’m doing this solely for the weight loss aspect of it. I will admit I do feel more energized but that’s not my concern I would just like to get down a few percentage points in BF%. Currently I’m eating 4-5lbs of meat a day with no problem and probably could eat more b

Unsure about Gastroscopy tomorrow

Day #40 of my second round of carnivore.Eating pork, lamb, deer, chicken, eggs, butter, lard, liver, salmon eggs, some dried spices, sometimes chili flakes.Half an espresso once or twice a week.Aiming for 50:50 ratio protein:fat (in weight), probably actually landing a bit more on the protein side.Always had trouble with my stomach, reflux, gerd, etc.40 days of carnivore didn’t help much with that so far, at least not consistently. Most of the time it’s worse than before, sometimes it’s a bit better. From what I’ve read it might get better with advancing adaptation.Chili and coffee in small doses seem to help my stomach and overall constitution.Tomorrow I have an appointment for an gastroscopy that I made 4 months ago (wait times are ridiculous in my city). The plan is to have it done with sedation.I’m unsure about how the sedation drug will affect my body, appetite, carnivore progress etc. Any experience with that?I wonder if I should reschedule and see how a couple more weeks of eatin

Anyone ever experience nausea when consuming meat during the early days?

I’ve tried 5 or 6 times now to do the salt/beef/water for 30 days and after even just 3-5 days of eating meat it starts to really fuck with me. Never have made it more than 2 weeks. The nausea is 100% the worst part. The smell alone of cooking up ground beef/lamb/sausage/etc. nauseates me very heavily. Lamb being the worst of it perhaps due to the extremely high fat content. And I love fat it’s just I legit can not stomach a single bite when I’m heavily nauseous. And it’s not even like oh i want this carb or that sugary food or nothing. Just “this meat right here right now sounds absolutely awful”. And I do not make bank or anything so I genuinely can’t afford to be wasteful. My main goal for this was trying to fix my sugar addiction. But surprisingly that hasn’t been the hardest part (although the intense cravings are brutal). The hardest part is shoveling down food that makes me want to gag. And this is coming from a meat-lover since my first meal! Steak being my favorite. I mean shit I

How much fat is lost when cooking ground beef?

I realized that I have an intolerance to the rendered fat that’s dispelled when cooking ground beef; since I can’t use cooking oils etc., I’ll typically grill the meatballs in the oven, wrapped in foil, for about 24 minutes @200 degrees Celsius. The beef is usually about 80/20. This leaves a small pool of juice/fat afterwards, and sometimes I’ll wipe down the meat as well. Since I *do* seem to require more fat to feel better, I was just wondering if I’d be losing a lot of the fat content by not consuming the rendered fat? from Zero Carb Zebras https://ift.tt/2JN7SF5 via IFTTT

[Discussion]Just how essential are "essential fatty acids".

I’m sure everyone in this community is aware of how debated the topic of polyunsaturated vs saturated fat is. The medical journals always yield us contradictory and confusing messages. This is not simply a topic where citing research shows a clear answer. I figured taking a step back and looking at what happens to the organism as a whole could yield us better answers. So the pro-polyunsaturated argument generally states that these fats are essential to consume because we can’t make them ourselves. To someone with no biochemical background, this would sound like a pretty straightforward assumption. This dates all the way back to 1929 when the Burrs published a study showing that unsaturated fats, especially linoleic acid, are essential to prevent a particular disease involving dermatitis, slowed growth, sterility, and fatal kidney diseases. But wait, is the whole idea that these fats are “essential” reside on the shoulders of a study done in the late 1920s. Further more, in the 1920s

I read a study a while back that took a group of men and fed half of them a high carb diet and the other half a high fat diet. Something I remember is that the high carb group was obsessed with food and started hoarding food and cooking utensils. The high fat group was satisfied. Anyone know which experiment I’m thinking of? [Article] Prolonged fasting: 6 very real benefits of fasting over 24 hours!

Hey, Let’s talk a bit about prolonged fasting. Prolonged fasting is a step up from normal intermittent fasting. Intermittent fasting is usually done for 16, 18 or 20 hours per day, but there are some special benefits you get by fasting for longer periods of time (between 24-72 hours). WARNING: Prolonged fasting is indeed healthy, but it does come with risks if done incorrectly: You shouldn’t do it for too long (over 7 days) and to be honest, it’s not really worth attempting at all until you master regular fasting on a daily basis for at least several months. If you have an eating disorder you need to be mindful that fasting, despite being healthy in many ways can transform itself into another way to feed your disorder as a form of abuse. Prolonged fasting can be done safely, but should always be done under the close supervision of a medical professional. 1. Weight loss The first and most obvious benefit due to the inevitable effects of not eating for prolonged fasting of t

Does deep frying in lard add fat to the meat?

It’s hard to get fatty cuts where I live.Sometimes I’d cut up and fry lean leftover meat in lard until it’s slightly crispy. It’s good, a bit like kebab.I wonder how much fat I’m actually adding to the meat by deep frying it. Since there’s no breading to hold fat. from Zero Carb Zebras https://ift.tt/2uARj4M via IFTTT

Effect of Nebraska Floods on Beef (and crops)

A local farm near me shared this article on Facebook so I thought I’d post it here:https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2019-03-28/many-million-calves-lost-nebraska-beef-prices-escalate-dramatically-coming-monthsArticle states that as many as a million calves have been lost so far because of flooding and that: “This is already the worst agricultural disaster in modern American history, and the National Weather Service is telling us that there will be more catastrophic flooding throughout the middle portion of the nation for the next two months.”It goes on to mention crops like wheat, soy, and corn were also destroyed (not like that’s relevant to this subreddit but it’s still important to know) and suggests we stock up on beef right now. This is just tragic and I can’t imagine what it’s like being a farmer right now in the Midwest. from Zero Carb Zebras https://ift.tt/2I4N0Hh via IFTTT

The Carni K.I.S.S. (keep it simple, stupid!)

Let’s talk about “imitation carbs” (not crabs) and the simpler life. You can’t walk through a grocery store now without bumping into some fake keto candy bar or cauliflower pizza. Reddit keto communities are bloated (haha) with links to monetized blogs full of recipes made out of xanthan gum, psyllium husk, coconut this that and the other. People are spending fortunes on Swerve and almond flour trying to make keto work for them without doing the meaningful work of confronting that this mindset got them into trouble in the first place. This is unsustainable, makes you feel deprived, and fake sugar probably does spike your insulin in some appreciable way. All this tends toward failure. This certainly was an issue for me when I was keto. Which is why I am so thankful for carnivore/ZC. I was one such coconut flour dupe. The marketing blitz around keto products is just more of the same mindless consumption machinery grinding on. I like how carnivore/ZC is a bit harder to monetize and market i

Pemmican - very negative experience. Please advise!

I bought 3 kilos of Pemmican from US Wellness Meats. It arrived perfectly packaged and frozen - that is fine… However, the texture of the product is very weird. It feels like a finely minced BOILED meet mixed with fat. It is my understanding that the meat should be dried to crispiness so it’s hard and then crumbled.I need this pemican to last through 5-7 days of travel in 80/90 degrees temp. But looking at this product, I am 100% sure that it will go bad in a day or less as the meat is clearly boiled and minced , not dried and crumbled. Moreover, the US Wellness recommends to keep it frozen.Has anyone purchased Pemmican from US Wellness and can advise ? Thanks! from Zero Carb Zebras https://ift.tt/2HUznKs via IFTTT

Today is a happy day.

I tried on a shirt from 18 years ago, wondering if I can still fit it. A year ago I couldn’t. But tonight, I could. I had gained about 30/40 pounds once I hit my 30s.. Tried all sorts of liquid diets, diet shakes, etc. Settled into the Paleo diet a couple years ago and while I saw some good results, the weight would always creep back in.Not with the Carnivore diet though. With the carnivore diet, I can finally not worry about food and weight gain anymore, or weight creeping back in for that matter. I’m on my 8th month so far and it can only get better from here. I do have a few clothing items from years ago that I can’t comfortably fit in just yet. But it’s only a matter of time. The future is looking bright. Thanks, Carnivore diet. Why does crunchy meat taste so good?

I’ve been gravitating toward raw zero carb for the health benefits, but man, why is crunchy meat so tasty?Does anyone else find themselves craving crispy or crunchy meat? I live in Louisiana and we have these pork “cracklins” that are crispy and chewy with chunks of crunchy meat attached to the crispy fried out fat. That’s one of my faves that I find myself craving at least once a week. Another thing I like to do is take the leftover meat from a pork or lamb roast and pan fry it in some fat until it makes crispy carnitas. Why am I craving crisp? Ok so I’m just transitioning from keto to full blown carnivore. So far I love it. I feel an elated, even less foggy state than keto allowed. However I’m noticing that I’m having a very difficult time regulating my body temp. I am getting hot flashes at all times of the day. I’ve read before that estrogen is stored in fat and when losing it, it can be released? I’m not well versed on this subject but I’m curious as I’m sitting here instantly sweating out of nowhere. I’m not tracking weight, but I’ve noticed some bloat has dissipated.I’m using this WOE as a tool for physical and mental benefits and to hopefully build up my strength and overall muscle tone. Why everyone finds it strange that i want fatty meat? (when buying it)

Im from Italy, and i buy the meat from local farmers, everytime i ask for meat that is as much fat as possible they either ask me how I’m going to prepare it and make a confused face or, sometimes like today, they took a huge piece of fatty meat and started ‘cleaning’ it from the 'excess’ fat, then i said, “no , no, i want as much fat as possible, just give the the whole piece please”, he was confused, and in the end he finally gave it to me with all the fat on.This happened a couple of times already..even if i say that i want fatty meat they still try to cut some fat off…its like if they never sold a single piece of meat without trimming away the fat..what’s the point of making the animals fat if in the end they are going to throw it away?Does this happen only to me? anyone? from Zero Carb Zebras https://ift.tt/2FA3Rid via IFTTT

Hamburger question

My order for meat wasn’t in from the butcher yet, and in the past we’ve stopped buying meat from our local grocery.. because a lot of the meat looks really sketchy and is overpriced. But either way, I decided to buy 900g of medium hamburger.I’ve never had medium hamburger before.. but following some other post I saw recently.. I basically just mixed the hamburger with 4 eggs and some salt, and cooked it up.Since it’s ground meat, I cooked it thoroughly instead of medium rare.I ate a small steak, and about ¼ of the hamburger before my stomach felt a bit weird.. so I stopped eating it and put it in the fridge.Later, when I was hungry again I just microwaved it, and ate most of the rest of it.. but my stomach definitely didn’t like it.I’ve only ever had lean hamburger in the past.. so basically I’m wondering a couple of things. Was I supposed to drain the excess fat from the pan before eating it?Was it just too much fat and my body didn’t like that?My order from the butcher is in now.. so

Day 50 - I still crave sugar

Well, I don’t really crave it much, but when I see chocolates, cakes and biscuits I can’t help but still desire them, I eat so much on this diet, about 2 pounds of chicken and pork, 6-8 eggs and sometimes I can’t stop myself to the point that I actually overeat and throw up (I know that’s probably not good)My living situation doesn’t help, I like with my grandparents and they constantly buy biscuits, donuts and the fridge is filled with chocolates, so it’s a constant reminder of something that I delude myself into missing.I’m not going to give up, the benefits of this mental clarity and memory and feeling overall good far outweighs the momentarily taste.
