[Blogspam] A meal planning/prepping and grocery list tool that accommodates the paleo diet.

I’m the creator of r/MealPlanYourMacros which is a subreddit I created to go along with my meal planning site www.balanceondemand.com I used to be a CrossFit coach for many years and during that time I tried out the paleo diet. Being that there are so many dietary restrictions out there like the paleo diet, I wanted to create a site that will help people figure out what to eat in a day and what to buy at the grocery store in order to hit their goals, but coincide with their dietary restrictions. This is how I came up with my site and my Beginner’s Guide to Meal Planning ( www.balanceondemand.com/e-book with promo code “reddit50”) Thought this would be helpful for subscribers of this community. I created the promo code for r/mealprep since their moderator was interested, so thought I would give y’all it too! submitted by /u/racheleatsright [link] [comments] from paleo diet http://bit.ly/2MgVoqJ via IFTTT

[Blogspam] I created a Beginner’s Guide to Meal Planning Which specifically Helps readers make a “balanced” Paleo meal.

Another subreddit moderator asked if anyone had a meal planning/prepping guide to help people get started. I am an engineer and fitness coach and recently started a meal planning site that created weekly meal plans and grocery lists for people with individual dietary restrictions. More recently I created a “Balancing Food Guide” for people who have idea where to start when it comes to meal planning (especially those with dietary restrictions). The other moderator asked if I could create a promo code for their subscribers, so I thought I’d let y’all have it too in case anyone was interested! www.balanceondemand.com/e-book Promo code: reddit50 You can also find it on r/MealPlanYourMacros submitted by /u/racheleatsright [link] [comments] from paleo diet http://bit.ly/2EKkFDz via IFTTT

[Question] Does anyone have a meal plan for an 80 year old woman?

Hey guys. I’m trying to fix my grandmothers diet to help reduce inflammation. She has arthritis and other age related issues. Her entire life has been filled with a lot of bread, wheat, oats, milk etc so I’m kindov stumped at how to not make her life too difficult while improving it. Has anyone had success changing diet of older people? What I’ve seen. She will typically eat those sugar filled oat packets for breakfast. Lunch would be something like fish fried in flour batter, and for dinner a chicken soup with some macaroni. I’m thinking buckwheat for breakfast (not fully paleo but she’s used to eating it), almond flour instead of wheat flour and for macaroni, some kind of potato or starchy vegetable submitted by /u/alex617 [link] [comments] from paleo diet http://bit.ly/2I73Ovw via IFTTT

[Question] Accountability this summer for the Paleo lifestyle

I have been trying to stay on track with the Paleo (at least Paleo-ish) lifestyle since I came back from a vacation where I ate all cheese and bread and felt TERRIBLE. Dairy and Gluten do not tend to agree with me. Anyways, I wanted to reach out to see if anyone wants to be a part of a Summer Accountability Challenge to stay on track with the Paleo diet? I own a meal planning site and wanted to start a Challenge this Saturday since summer time is the most difficult time to stay on track. Everyone in this challenge has all sorts of dietary restrictions, so I thought I’d see if anyone who follows Paleo would be interested. You can see the format of the challenge on balanceondemand.com/summerchallenge and receive details through balanceondemand.com/challenge-sign-up submitted by /u/racheleatsright [link] [comments] from paleo diet http://bit.ly/2VYf8ik via IFTTT

9 Things People With Celiac Disease Wish Loved Ones Would Say More Often

Image
New blog post! Even though celiac awareness is thankfully higher than it used to be, people still often misunderstand how serious celiac disease is and how strict we have to be with our gluten free diet. Sometimes, even family members and friends can be unsure of how to support loved ones with celiac disease. Which is, of course, where this post comes in! Inspired by The Mighty’s post, “ 15 Things People With Fibromyalgia Wish Their Loved Ones Said More Often ,” I decided to share 9 things that people can do to support loved ones with celiac disease. So if you know someone with celiac and need help knowing the right words to say…here’s a guide. And if you have celiac disease and want more support but don’t know what to ask for, here are some good places to start. 1. “Your diet’s no big deal. Promise.” Eating gluten free is easier than it used to be. However, it still takes planning and research and just plain effort  to live safely with celiac disease. So it’s super reassuring to

[Question] Organic Chia seeds

I buy this at my local Costco. I rarely have time in the morning to make things to eat so I usually have 2 tablespoons of these seeds and I mix it with 6 tablespoons of water. I do this in place of eggs not that I avoid eggs, I eat them on weekends mainly, but time isn’t in my side in most cases. I also do intermittent fasting during the week. I stop eating at 7pm and pick back up around noon the next day when it comes to solid foods. Any downsides of doing this on a daily basis? It’s a great source of fiber. I don’t see anything wrong with it, but still wanted to ask. submitted by /u/Alabaster13 [link] [comments] from paleo diet http://bit.ly/2EzB7q5 via IFTTT

[Question] Mood improvements?

I had begun doing some sort of paleo diet (did not include dairy/eggs/nightshades/legumes) after reading Chris Kresser’s book. One day after about 3 weeks from beginning the diet, I had steam cooked broccoli+virgin olive oil+lemon+sea salt for lunch and the took a magnesium citrate pill. I felt quite calm and happy for a few hours. I suffer from low mood. and sth. like this happened to me for the first time in my life but i could not repeat this experience ever again despite consuming similar things for a while longer. And about a week after, I stopped doing the diet. 1.What do you think was the reason behind my temporary good mood? Is there any way I can experience that kind of mood forever? As a side note: This diet caused significant improvements in my blood test measurements. Especially vitamin/mineral levels improved quite a lot. Thanks for the help in advance. submitted by /u/worldcub [link] [comments] from paleo diet http://bit.ly/2K2scB2 via IFTTT

Ordered some True Nutrition protein with Cricket Plus (a mix of pea and cricket protein) as one of the ingredients. I like the fact that you can choose what goes in your mix and was super excited to see cricket protein available. I’m afraid I’m unable to disclose our approximate ratio as it’s protected in trade secret, but I can inform you that it will be much more pea than cricket. I hope that helps, feel free to contact us with any additional questions or concerns. :)” I’m sure this is a decent company but beware, if you are interested in the cricket protein, it seems that only a small portion of the powder is from crickets. submitted by /u/blobbleguts [link] [comments] from paleo diet http://bit.ly/2VXys4k via IFTTT

Procrastination

I think this is my least favourite part of the sad diet. For those who don’t know, I broke for various reasons and went back to eating sad, even though that wasn’t my intention. I’m starting back today on this woe, and I wanted to point out this thing called procrastination. The word procrastination is redefined based on people’s past experience with it. Some people don’t even clue in to it. Some people just think you’re lazy or unmotivated. There are multiple TED talks on this subject, and my favourite one is “Tim Urban: Inside the mind of a master procrastinator”. It highlights in a fun way the issues of procrastinators with some serious parts later on.Having the unfortunate advantage of going from zerocarb back into sad, I feel confident in proposing that, at least in 1 case, procrastination is in part due to your diet. The best way I can describe procrastination is the feeling of wanting to do something, knowing you are capable of doing it, but simply not doing that thing you want to

Cause for HD LSD Vision on ZC

So a while back we had this thread https://www.reddit.com/r/zerocarb/comments/b8qucb/lsd_vision/ where many people noticed that they get this super sharp vision. That also happened to me a couple of times but I could never really pinpoint on what causes it.Just now I had some veal liver with a lot of tallow. While eating the liver I got a strange feeling for about a second in my head and eyes and then I had this HD LSD like visionNow I wonder what exactly causes this. Surely it must be something in the liver as I eat a lot of tallow all the time. My first guess would have been the vitamin A as there is a huge amount of it in liver. But then I also eat about 6-8 egg yoks a day that which contain a decent amount of vitamin A (not like liver of course) too. However, I also eat about 200-400g of liver each week so it would be strange for me to be deficient in vitamin A. Furthermore, this HD effect does not appear every time I eat liver. So do you have any clue what could cause this? fro

8 months on nocarb/carnivore(pic included)

So in September 2018 I started this WOE. The reasons for starting was to hopefully alleviate my migraines since the doctors couldn’t figure out the cause, and the medication wasn’t really preventing them. Some back story, I was diagnosed with Celiac disease in 2014, and doing a completely gluten free diet didn’t help me feel better. Still had migraines and generally feeling like crap.So I started the WOE, and within a week my migraines and stomach issues were completely gone, within a month my blood pressure with medication was so low I was getting dizzy. With doctors consent I got off my blood pressure pills and have normal BP to this day. I had a new sleep study done in March and I no longer have sleep apnea. I got off my migraine meds after a doctor’s visit in January. They also did blood work and other than low HDL cholesterol and slightly low sodium, the doctor said everything was normal. The biggest difference in eight months is the weight loss, not why I started this WOE, but I w

Isn’t the prescription of 400 g of 2:1 fatty meat(~1500cals) really just a calorie restricted WOE? I’m perfectly fine with this prescription but was questioning why people think it is so magical? from Zero Carb Zebras http://bit.ly/2LWCJQK via IFTTT

Higher Protein vs Higher Fat for muscle building and body composition

I’ve wondered for a while now, whether consuming a higher protein:fat ratio or a higher fat:protein ratio (in terms of ZC of course) shows better physical results. What’s your experience been and have you found one or the other to benefit your overall body composition more? from Zero Carb Zebras http://bit.ly/2WhiKjK via IFTTT

ADHD and Carnivory

I was recently diagnosed and I’m curious how many other carnivores here are on prescribed Adderall. I was prescribed 10mg XR for the mornings and 5mg immediate release for the afternoons. I’m supposed to run this for two weeks and come back for reevaluation.I long suspected this diagnosis, but it is still taking some getting used to. When I first started carnivore back during the n=1 study in 2017 I noticed a huge improvement in my focus and overall mental health, but I never reached that final level of feeling free and “normal”. This medicine seems to help dial me in and it makes me way less anxious. The difference in my anxiety between SAD and ZC was night and day, and this medicine seems to be the final nail in the coffin for it.Anyways, I welcome thoughts and input from fellow carnivores and would greatly appreciate any insight you can offer.——-Side note:My psychological evaluation involved an EKG and a blood pressure test to ensure that my heart was in good enough shape to hand

Getting a blood test soon, what to expect and how to prepare?

I’ve been doing carnivore for about two months now and my family is concerned about it, but hasn’t managed to talk me out of it yet. I did keto before that. They want me to get a blood test (and so do I, kinda). I’m doing OMAD and fast occasionally, therefore I’m curious as to what would be the best time to get tested (fasted, full with food) and what sort of results I should expect after only two months? Is there anything that might stand out because I haven’t been doing this for a long time? from Zero Carb Zebras http://bit.ly/2HMitfz via IFTTT

I'm looking for iron rich liver alternatives.

I have had low iron levels for most of my twenties, and it seemed to be contributing to the thinning condition of my hair.Mid twenties I was put on ferrofumerate (iron pills) by my GP, but we found out I had supplement induced hemochromatosis so iron supplementation was no longer an option. In 2018 when I was 33 I decided to give zc a try, and also to include 100gr of beef liver 3 or 4 times a week.I loved liver and always looked forward to it, this continued for months. In the last 3 months I started to like it less and less, even started to dislike the experience of eating it.There’s revulsion now. And it’s organic grass fed beef liver, and I’ve tried several other types of liver (pork, lamb, chicken, veal).I just think it has a sickly sweet taste now and the pasty delicate texture puts me off now, not just beef liver. Any liver. So because I didn’t want to eat the liver anymore and I had a very stressfull time last month I temporarily went over to mainly boiled/steamed pork belly becau

Worse than before when going back to carbs

Hi, so I started a very low carb carnivore diet consisting of mostly grain fed beef, eggs, liver, butter and water a few weeks ago and when I switched back to my normal diet (which is considered healthy by most) and started eating carbs again, I have started to develop some weird conditions. The conditions were. 1. Eye floaters, basically I see a black small dot in front of my right eye sometimes. 2. Extremely eczema like dry hands which spread further up my arm. 3. Seborrheic dermatitis on my scalp.I may add that I have never had these problems before my carnivore experiment. So my question is, has anyone else experienced new symptoms that they have never had before after transitioning back to a normal diet from a zerocarb diet? from Zero Carb Zebras http://bit.ly/2wadGyP via IFTTT

[Question] An experiment with large carb intake

On keto this is considered “cheating” and such posts are not allowed as it may discourage or tempt some of the redditors on keto. Hopefully it is ok here. Occasionally I do food experiments where I try to monitor the effect of this food or that food. I currently eat mostly keto so <20g carbs per day, but probably more like around 30g carbs. Last night I went way above that with a pint of regular icecream. I think this alone was over 100g carbs. I felt good for awhile, and then of course there was a sugar crash later, but it was around bedtime so it worked out ok. This morning though, I woke with anxiety, and that’s not normal for me. Day 3: Feeling amazing.

I decided to try the diet for 30 days. 5’6” 125lbs ish to start, decently lean, been doing keto since last November so I’m already fat adapted. Lifting weights for years, no real healing issues so I’m not your typical success story. Just a curious experimenter - it’s been 3 days. I have some lettuce and avocado in my fridge and I’m not about to throw it out so I’ve been slowly finishing up the plant matter (I’ll include a tiny bit every meal and mostly and funnelling it to my husband). I feel fantastic. I’m down 2lbs although I’m sure that’s just water weight, stomach looks tighter than ever, been having the best sleeps and I think I’m finally free of my keto dessert dependence. No cravings what so ever - I thought it would be really hard to give up avocados but seriously it’s all in your head. The biggest difference is that my anxiety is gone. I have an incredibly high stress job and I just feel flat - no highs no lows just base level which is so not “me”. If it only gets better from

My litmus test: International flight arrival energy level - night and day difference!

Full transparency: for a month I’ve been meat, cheese……….. and beer (never really passing 75g of beer carbs and it’s usually 25g). Ribeyes, prime rib, ground beef, and egg. No adult chicken; my system is simply not interested in chicken. Not in a nauseous way, more completely disinterested.I’ve been traveling internationally for seven years. In the last four weeks I’ve had two round-trip flights with the long haul legs being 6h-12h, not in business (for reference). I just completed a 6h flight to Europe landing at 4am in my home timezone.Typically on the SAD diet I’m WRECKED with really shit energy levels. Lethargy. Lower concentration. Today upon arriving, going through customs, collecting bags, and now in a taxi it dawned on me that my last few INTL flights have been cake. The current trip I’m on I’ve done so many times the difference in energy is starkly apparent.Just another testimony about the fog lifting on zero carb. The real test will be in January when I travel to Australia. I’

[Question] Fibre and Stool

What is the paleo consensus on fibre? Specifically as it pertains to constipation and hard stool. I currently eat keto, and just tried zero carb/carnivore for 3 months. I didn’t feel the latter to offer any improvements, but wasn’t a negative experience other than to say it hasn’t releived the constipation/hardstool I’ve experienced throughout eating keto/low carb. I’ve also tried discussing this on keto specific forums but the amount of unfriendly dogmatic people is a real strain to deal with. I’m asking here because I’m considering trying a much higher fibre intake. If fibre isn’t the cause of constipation/makes it worse then how have those that have experienced it (if any) relieved it? The only advice i’ve gotten so far from keto/zc sources: eat more fat (not sure how, I don’t like raw fat and, afaict, eat a fair amount as it is, so I’m unsure how to physically add more or how much), eat lots of Mg (i take 3x MgCit supplements a day, 300mg. I’d rather source from food if possible

What zerocarb foods are particularly good for you and which ones are not necessary?

Hey what’s up. I was thinking of simplifying my menu and only get ribeye, salmon, tuna, chicken breasts/thighs, eggs, and very little sausages and bacon. Do you guys think I should add anything to this list? from Zero Carb Zebras http://bit.ly/2WV63bn via IFTTT

Please Know What Celiac Disease Is Not

Image
New blog post! When you have celiac disease, you spend a good amount of your time explaining what celiac disease is and what you can eat on a gluten free diet. But at least in my experience, friends and family usually have way more questions than can be answered in a few simple comments…and there are still far too many misconceptions about celiac disease and the gluten free diet floating around the world. That’s why, when I saw this post at The Mighty , I knew I had to write a similar one about celiac disease. In particular, today’s post is all about what celiac disease is not …so that people can hopefully have a way better understanding of what celiac disease is and how it really affects our lives! So without further adieu, celiac disease is not … A fad diet. For better and for worse, the gluten free diet has become way more popular in recent years. In fact, one 2016 study found that although the prevalence of celiac disease has remained constant over time, non-celiac gluten
