Macro questions

I’m on day two of ZC (beef, salt and water at this point). I’m just curious about how much fat I should be getting over the course of the day. Obviously I’m aiming for fatty cuts like rib eyes, which I’m cooking in beef dripping (lard) as well as mince with lots of lard in it (two tablespoons). So far between breakfast and lunch I’ve had 141g protein, 94g of fat of which 42g was saturated.I’ve seen some calculators recommend 200g of fat a day on zero carb, but that seems insanely high. What does everyone on here normally aim for? from Zero Carb Zebras https://ift.tt/2OqAOE4 via IFTTT

Eat mostly red meat, some eggs, a little seafood, a little chicken, a little pork, rarely eat cheese, no cream. I drink a couple cups of coffee a day. Bowels have been loose for the entire time I’ve been carnivore. Please help with suggestions. Thanks. from Zero Carb Zebras https://ift.tt/2y5GlFN via IFTTT

Need help convincing my father

So my dad is a full time roofer whose back has been broken since he was 16, (now going on 49) and is suffering from a very very extensive list of maladies. He’s also a cigarette smoker. The largest thing stopping him from starting the diet with me is him Mountain Dew addiction (for those unaware, it’s a very very unhealthy lemon-lime flavored soda). I’ve read him a couple of the testimonies from meatheals.com, but it hasn’t seemed to affect him very much. Any suggestions? Also, is 73% lean, 27% fat ground beef enough fat? Anyone has tips on pork hocks?

Hey guysI managed to get 2 pork hocks at a pretty good price (was like 6$/kg), but this will be my first time ever preparing some so I would like to ask for advices from fellow carnivores. The equipment I have : a cast iron skillet, an oven, a slow cooker.I thought about dropping it in the slow cooker with a bit of water, but that’s about as far as my imagination went. I am wondering if I should start it in the skillet then drop in the slow cooker, or if right away in the slow cooker would turn out decent (which would be great because I will probably prepare it before work tomorrow morning, unless the oven wins then it might be after work).Let me know your thoughts, I tried a quick search on the subreddit for pork hock and got no result, so I thought I would ask away :D from Zero Carb Zebras https://ift.tt/2QlIaG7 via IFTTT

I experimented with zc and my parents dont like it

I have explained the science, how I felt, how I would be cooking my own meals, how it would be inexpensive, and they still don’t support me. For some background I’m 17 y/o with some change and I lost 45 pounds on keto. I went from 170->125 in 6 months and I’m 5'5" as a male. Once on zc I lost about 5 more pounds on and stayed that way for 2 weeks. My parents are concerned with me losing too much weight but I feel like shit when I eat carbs and after being forced off of it I am currently 125. My bms are not pleasent and frequent and I don’t have as much energy as I did. I also explained that I probably lost the 5 pounds because I want eating enough fat. I crunched the numbers and figured I can eat a mix of beef trimmings and Chuck roast cut into steaks @ 1.5-2 pounds a day for 100 dollars a month. Any advice? HEAL SEVERE PSORIASIS WITH MEAT AND WATER !!!

Hi all. I have been on a long journey for over 3 years to try and heal my severe psoriasis which covers nearly all my body. I have tried all diets including vegan, high fruit etc with some success with my skin but never feeling great. I lost a lot of weight and strength during this process and was always craving fat and animal foods. I have been on a high carb diet for over a year and went straight into meat and water only in August having heard of people healing on meat only diets online. This was a big mistake and i had severe reactions after a week and had the worst carb cravings ever!. I stopped instantly and gave into the carbs although healthy ( fruit, sweet potatoes.) I realised this was a stupid move and that i needed to transition more slowly for my body to adjust due to my carb heavy diet previous. I wasn’t going to give up as i knew deep down I needed to try this properly. I decided for the month of september to try again but to include a few low carb foods. I have eaten fat

[blogspam] Weasleys' Dragon Roasted Nuts

For those familiar with the story, you’ll remember that Fred and George Weasley left Hogwarts shortly before graduation in their 7th year to start their joke shop Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes in Diagon Alley. Though not mentioned in the books, the Half-Blood Prince film showed that their joke shop included a coin-operated machine selling Weasleys’ Dragon Roasted Nuts, complete with a miniature dragon breathing fire over them. [Other] Looking for advice/ suggestions/ inspiration/ and success stories from anyone who has beaten inflammatory illnesses, IBS, GORD, bloat, weight gain, etc with Paleo diet (+/- supplements). Cracked it! Thanks everyone :-)

As the headline suggests, I’ve cracked it with western medicine and the normal western diet. There’s something horribly wrong with how we live, how we eat, how we exercise. I used to be a tiny stick of a person, some weight I gained was good weight, but since then I’ve gained 20kg in the last 4-6 years (it’s yo-yo’d a bit) and am now a solid 15-20kg over my goal healthy weight, with a lot of fat around my tummy and thighs. I am constantly bloated so bad I look 9 months pregnant and sometimes get congratulated by strangers on my pregnancy/ upcoming baby. I’m. Not. Pregnant. Over the years I’ve had numerous blood test, CT scans, colonoscopy, gastroscopy x2, ultrasounds. I’ve seen various specialists, costing me hundreds if not thousands of dollars. Not ever has anyone found anything wrong except inflammation- I’ve now been diagnosed with gastritis and reflux, recurrent sinusitis, recurrent cystitis, IBS, PCOS. Aka, lots of inflammation. But no cause of it- no immune problems, nothing.

[Question] Why does alcohol give me insomnia?

I wasn’t sure where to ask this question, but I’ve generally found a lot of value in the paleo community so I decided to ask here. Basically, most people I know have no trouble sleeping after a couple drinks. Quite the contrary, actually: They often have an easier time sleeping. But for me, I’ve found myself in a position where physiologically I almost feel like I just drank a few shots of coffee after I’ve had a serving or two of beer or whisky. If I’m in the habit of going to sleep at midnight each night, suddenly when I drink alcohol I might be up until 4 or 5 AM, unable to sleep in a way that feels as if I ingested caffeine. What could be causing this? Note that this effect was a lot worse when I was keto for a bit, but despite going back on grains I’m still getting major insomnia effects from alcohol, and socially speaking it’s very inconvenient. submitted by /u/Eric_Wulff [link] [comments] from paleo diet https://ift.tt/2zGbz8G via IFTTT

Anyone with a history of Morton's Neuroma?

This is a relatively niche condition, so I’d imagine this post only applies to a few people on this sub – I hope they’re here.A nerve between the second and third, or third and fourth toes becomes entrapped, and is irritated, and gradually thickens to cause pain. This condition is very common in women who wear high heels and in runners.Has anyone with this condition undertaken zero carb and experienced a positive benefit when it comes to neuroma? I have had this condition for 18 months now. Over time I’ve noticed patterns: generally what things worsen or irritate the condition. Alcohol is one, especially cider, for whatever reason. And carbs are the other, especially refined carbs, and the worst is sugar. The pain is non-existent when I’m fasting, and is very low and bearable when on ZC. There are debates as to what actually causes the pain in this condition: if it is neurological or if it is the inflammation associated with the nerve irritation. If inflammation, then it makes sense fas

Very little appetite

I was zerocarb for about a year and was generally satisfied with a 600g ribeye daily (OMAD). I went off ZC and gained a good bit of weight. I have gone back to ZC for the last two months. This time around, I am not finishing 600g - after about 400g, I feel full and have no more desire to eat. I’ve left some beautiful steaks hanging! People ask me about it all the time now. I’m an ICU nurse and so of course healthcare people are skeptical. Hell, I definitely was when I first came to this subreddit about a year ago. It’s interesting how much misinformation there has been in healthcare & nutrition.I started with keto about 2 years ago to fix a shitty GI system. My best friend was doing it for weight loss and offhandedly mentioned that he had basically no gas on keto. Everything I ate made me bloated and (very) gassy to the point that I had to plan eating around doing things with people. I’d tried everything from probiotic pills to probiotic power, avoiding FODMAPS, you name it. I’ve grown up health-conscious and have never been overweight. Putting on weight has always been a struggle but I managed in my early lifting days by using mass-gainers and other carbohydrate sources in excess. Now that I’ve produced my leanest and most muscular physique having done carnivore for about 4 months, it occurred to me that I might experiment a little with putting on weight. My weight is currently stable and my health issues have dramatically improved. I’ve started asking myself, can I keep the health benefits and still put on weight? While the beauty of ZC/Carnivore is that you can eat as much as you feel like, I figured I’d start eating more and see what the results were. Excess consumption of fat leaves me a bit nauseas and sick in the stomach. Excess protein leaves me feeling tired and fatigued.I realise now that to gain weight without carbs will be a challenge. Insane Cholesterol Numbers (Not In A Good Way) On Carnivore (approx 8 weeks)

Started the carnivore diet on 8/3. I’m doing eggs, beef, and lamb mostly. I’ll snack on a small chunk of feta and cook in either butter, lard, or tallow. I dropped about 15 pounds and feel amazing. Also stopped booze and weed, so that probably helps :).Daily routine looks like this: Pre Breakfast/Pre Workout = 1 cup of bone broth with pink salt, 1 cup of coffee. Breakfast = 3 eggs (get them from a farm) and either bacon or about ¼ lbs of ground beef. Lunch = 1 lbs beef or lamb. Dinner = 1 lbs beef or lamb.I’m exercising a bunch. Doing some body weight training at home then hitting the gym for weights and sauna. PM doing some sprints and balance training.Just got some bloodwork back and my cholesterol numbers are HORRIBLE. This seems to contradict a lot of what I’ve been reading about the effects of dietary cholesterol on blood cholesterol specific to the carnivore diet. Also seems to be 180 degrees opposite to what a lot of other folks have experienced. By far the most alarming numbers

However, I called myself a vegan.I have delved deep into the world of veganism to the point where I have a huge vegetable garden and am basically a vegetable farmer at this point. I cook all the time, eat all kinds of different foods. I didn’t really watch what I ate too much, I just made sure that I was getting plenty of fruits and vegetables.Well this past week I had food poisoning from something I ate. I ended up not eating anything except rice or oatmeal for 4 days while I tried to recover from the food poisoning. Lime Mount Franklin Water on ZC

Hello,So i was a bit caviler in my recent online grocery purchase. There was a special on sparkling water, so i went all out and go 20+ liters of what i thought to be normal Sparkling Water, however it turned out to be lime infused.Im 2 weeks into my personal experiment on ZC, and im worried that if im drinking 1l or 2l of this water the carbs in it may negatively effect my progress.Link to product: https://www.coca-colajourney.com.au/brands/mount-franklin-lightly-sparkling/mount-franklin-lightly-sparkling-limeIf i drink a Litre a day i would be consuming:Carbohydrates0.0 gmEnergy (Cal)5.88 calEnergy (kJ)23.5 kJTotal Fat0.0 gmSaturated Fat0.0 gmProtein0.0 gmSugars0.0 gmSodium42.0 mgIts my interpretation that this way of eating is not a cult like situation as is most Vegan methods due to the Ethical situation they face. However i think during my first 4 weeks i should be very strict. Even tho the label says zero carbs, there is still Cal and Energy, should that be ok? from Zero C

I reached 90 days strict zero carb today.

Well, that just flew by. Easiest diet I’ve ever tried, and I’ve tried most of them. I’m 41 years old, 6 foot 2, down to 13st 5 lb. (I was hovering about 15st 90 days ago).Biggest testimonial I can give you all is that when I started out on this, I imagined that if I ever reached 90 days I’d want to run out and ‘celebrate’ with ice cream and beer. Well, the opposite is true. I just woke up, had 2 ribeyes for breakfast as normal and have zero desire for anything else. The idea of eating junk food disgusts me at the moment. 90 days ago I would have described myself as a hopeless sugar addict who was highly susceptible to binge eating.I feel this diet has truly liberated me from food addictions. It appears from the outside that this diet would be so restrictive, when you do it, it feels the opposite way.Any questions, just fire away. from Zero Carb Zebras https://ift.tt/2NJ9kKp via IFTTT

It’s back!!!!

After being on this ZC journey for ~3 weeks I am absolutely ecstatic to report that after almost 3 months post-BC termination (hormonal IUD) my hormones have regulated enough for me to get my period back! This is the happiest I’ve ever been to have AF visit because I honestly was getting so discouraged and started believing that my BC has made me infertile. I highly recommend this WOE to any woman who has a hormonal imbalance as I was taking so many supplements trying to make my cycle regulate with no results! I’m blown away that it took less than a month for everything to get back to normal and I just wanted to thank everyone for the support and amazing resources that you’ve shared with me along this journey. That being said I have 0 intention to quit ZC as I do feel optimal eating this way and knowing it regulated my cycle further confirms the notion that MEAT HEALS! I was so scared to move to this WOE from keto but I’m so glad I listened to my gut and followed through with it; my men

We have a company meetup, and one question was if we had any dietary restrictions. I didn’t really feel like saying “meat only,” partly because I don’t want anyone to go to too much trouble for me. But I did say “no grains,” as that’s going to at least cut out all the pizzas and flatbreads and such like last time.Problem is, they’ll probably try to get me salads or whatever. Can birth control mess up my ZC diet and weight?

Sorry for mistakes, but I’m Italian. So I’m 21 and I’ve been gaining and losing 10 pounds for years. Then I went keto, because it made me feel better in general, but I was bloated all the time as I was eating huge amounts of vegetables like broccoli and spinach. I decided to try ZC(1,5 months so far). A few days passed and the bloating was gone. My problem is that 2 months ago I started taking birth control for pcos(the only “treatment” the doctor will offer..) and I didnt have the big zero carb increase in hunger some people report, but I’m gaining weight. I don’t count calories and practice intuitive eating. It worked fine before BC without weight gain. Hi,I’m new with this “diet” and I’d like to ask some questions, but first some context:When I was young I didn’t have any problems with eating and I was quite skinny. After I started to work (sedentary job) and eating out a lot I gradually became non-active and overweight. After some time I decided to lose weight and to work out. I lost about 45lbs on various diets, including keto and “standard balanced one”.However gradually I developed some health problems. I was always a slow eater, but as time went by it became worse and worse, to the point where now I’m 36 years old and I have problems with reflux, heartburn, GERD, choking with food, problems with swallowing, problems with sleeping and more. In the final stage (few weeks ago) I was at the point where I couldn’t eat anything, because I was vomiting the food back (sorry for being visual) and hungry at the same time constantly.I had a visit to a gastroenterologist who prescribed me some “proton pump inhibitors”. The previous 3 times, it was the right ovary, and today it is the left. Other than the pain, nothing else is going on in terms of her reproductive system. Hey guys! So I’ve been doing ZC for 20+ days now and though at first I was leaning out somewhere around the 2 week mark I started getting super round around my waist. This is super atypical as my waist, even when gaining a lot of weight, is small in proportion to the rest of my body; now I’m just super bloated/round but the rest of me has stayed the same.I eat 2-2.5lbs of beef most days (it’s usually lean because I haven’t been craving much fat) and I cut out dairy 4 days ago in hopes that it would help. I’m 5’9F 20yrs old and weight ~155lbs now that I seem to be pudgier than usual.Any insight would help on the matter and if someone had anything similar did it go away with time? All my pants are super tight around my waist and it’s very disheartening for me despite all the other benefits I’ve had on ZC. And yes, for anyone wondering, weight loss is something I want to do while on ZC (-15lbs) and I know this is part of the adjustment period but it’s super uncomfortable :(Thanks!TL;DR : 2

Any tried and true tips for better sleep?

Ever since I started ZC my dreams have been all over the place. The worst part is that they have become way more vivid, in the sense that I haven’t been able to tell I’m dreaming. Before, I usually would be able to figure out I’m dreaming and enter a form of lucid dreaming where I have more control.Another issue is I find myself waking after 3-5 hrs of sleep, whether it’s because I’m dreaming, need to pee, or some unknown reason. Even though I’m averaging about 5-7hrs of sleep these intermissions leave me feeling unrested. That’s not to say I don’t have enough energy throughout the day, though. I have plenty energy to go about my day and workout every other day. Also, I don’t have any trouble going to sleep. My sleepiness usually dictates when I need to turn off my phone (always in night mode.) I also don’t spend time on my cot, but now I tend to get sleepy on the couch I usually sit on.Things I’ve tried:Eating lean beef before bed.Eating fatty, broth beef before bed.Not eating beef wel

Blood tests: LDL up, HDL down, Trig way up. What’s going on?

I went from Paleo-ish to carni OMAD 2 months ago (mostly meat but with some acceptable plant food like guacamole, and others like jalapenos, onions, hot sauce, added for taste). My blood tests show LDL which was “high” is now even higher (248-> 324), HDL seems acceptable but still dropped quite a bit (58 -> 46), and Trig through the roof (89-> 251).The doc is predictably chomping at the bit to sell me some lipitor. I intent to continue ignoring that, but using this opportunity to see if they can order an NMR/VAP.Should I be concerned about any of this? I believe high trigs can be expected initially but the HDL dropping was surprising? from Zero Carb Zebras https://ift.tt/2Od9EAn via IFTTT

How long lasts the transition phase? (hard stomach pain, diarrhea)

So I was already doing keto, with veggies etc. for a long time. And now I’m trying carnivore (I might not be 100% since I drink coffee, use lemon on fish and some herbs, also cheese and eggs which as i understood is ok for some but not for others right?)It’s 2 weeks in and I’m having a lot of discomfort/pain after eating. Diarrhea (like pure water). Is that normal? how long does it lasts? Is it ok maybe to mix in some vegetables just to reduce the symptons or that way i’ll never get over this phase? The diarrhea isn’t really the problem, if it was just that it would be ok, but the pain sucks. from Zero Carb Zebras https://ift.tt/2MWG0ed via IFTTT

Anyone cook bulk ground beef

I like to make all my weekday meals on Sunday for when I’m busy so I dont have to cook, so thats 10 meals. What’s the best way to cook 10 lb at once? My frying pan is only 12" and can hold 2.5 lb. from Zero Carb Zebras https://ift.tt/2N53y0m via IFTTT
