Why does everyone say there is no need to count calories on a carnivore diet?

One of my goals with my carnivore diet is to lose weight, but everyone here is saying that on this particular diet, even if this is your goal there is no need to count calories! How can this be? The sources of meat I am relying on (cafeteria turkey and beef patties) are fairly calorie dense (roughly 200 per patty) and not super filling. I could easily eat 15 of them per day which would put me well into a caloric surplus. So with this in mind, how is it true that you can simply eat until you’re not hungry anymore and lose weight with this diet? from Zero Carb Zebras https://ift.tt/2FOu3sQ via IFTTT

Health question

Hi everybody -So as I’ve mentioned it’s been about a month carnivore for me, and it has been pretty easy. I’m down 6lbs (I only weighed 136 to begin with) my stomach is flat, I’m not sleeping great at night, but I have more mental energy and clarity during the day. I’m definitely less exhausted.I started this to “see how it went”. Now I’m considering it long term. There’s obviously so much junk data out there, but I need to convince myself a little more that this is healthy longer term. Can you guys help me find the best evidence to support or refute the items below? I would really appreciate it. I know I could google it more, but I’ve already don’t that and searched this subreddit and it’s hard to piece it all together. How come we don’t get scurvy in this diet? I’ve looked at those 20+ year examples to support that we obviously don’t get scurvy, but why?Are we deficient in ANY vitamins and minerals on this diet? I get that we need less of certain vitamins and minerals because we aren’t

Fried Chicken

This could be highly controversial, but it is 100% zero carb, and zero sugar fried chicken. Pork rinds, pulverized into oblivion, will act as flour. Beat up some eggs, dredge chicken first, then add to pork crumbs, pack tight. Add to a hot pan of bacon grease. It’s better to half bath rather than fully submerge. Works well with drumsticks, but best with chicken breasts or tenderloins to make chicken strips. Absolutely fantastic for zero carb. from Zero Carb Zebras https://ift.tt/2Q5awsH via IFTTT

Someone brought doughnuts into work today and amazingly I didn’t even want one.

I used to love doughnuts and any time I was trying a new diet when free doughnuts were on the menu any diet planning was out the window.Today someone brought in a couple boxes of assorted doughnuts. Normally I’d see the box and start to crave one and eventually talk myself into having one. But today I saw them, thought about it for a second and realized I had no desire to eat one. Pretty remarkable coming from me. Even when I started to get hungry towards the end of the day the thought of a doughnut was still unappealing. from Zero Carb Zebras https://ift.tt/2Rou4Vt via IFTTT

Is it worth going on a carnivore diet if I can’t guarantee good quality meat?

So I’m currently on a 2 meal a day IM diet. It is pretty well balanced, and fairly low carb, but the problem is that it is not very satiating, which has caused me to be unfaithful to it as of late. I am considering going full carnivore because I hear it is far more filling than any other diet, and additionally , I’m battling depression, and suffer from joint pain and I’ve heard that it can help remedy that. A big concern I have however is that I’m on a school meal plan, so a lot of the meat I will be eating is greasy, pre cooked or frozen, and not necessarily grass fed or cage free so I’m worried that is not the why the diet is intended to be followed and that I will have health issues as a result. Question about the Vince Gironda only steak and eggs diet.

A few questions for anyone whose done this diet;Other than water, what can you drink? I’m transitioning to this from keto. I used to drink monster energy drinks, the ultra zero only had one carb, every day. I wouldn’t think to drink this, but eggs also have carbs in them so I don’t think it’s absolutely zero carb even though people say it is. The main drink I’m asking about though is Zevia, a soda drink with stevia, no carbs, sugar, calories at all. Would this throw the diet off? I’m not going to drink coffee, but how about green tea also? Also, if I get hungry in the steak and egg diet or just want a snack, can I eat an egg or few if I want? Or is intermittent fasting required? I’ve read you can eat as many eggs as you want but 12 is reccomended a day. Can I just eat 12 throughout the day with steak for lunch and dinner or?Lastly, how often can I replace sausage or bacon with steak if at all? Slow cooker recipes? + 2 questions

I recently have decided to go zero carb and in order to guarantee that I stick with this atleast for a month, I need to plan out my entire month and stock up my fridge and freezer.I mainly will be doing red meat, mostly steaks, but as they get expensive I am looking for cheaper cuts to eat to balance the budget. Ground beef I can sometimes find for as little as $1.49 a pound but Chuck steaks are available at my local grocery store for $3.49 a pound, but I have no idea if they will be good when cooked like a regular steak so I was wondering if anyone attempted these in a slow cooker somehow? Or just any other slow cooker zero carb recipes that are worth looking in to? Most that I find online are low carb.On an unrelated note, I have not been able to find a decent answer to this, but if doing long term zero carb will having a day every 2 weeks where I eat carbs for one meal out with friends be detrimental to this diet? Also I usually go out for drinks twice a week. Question for those who lost weight doing zero carb.

For me personally, if I were to switch to a no carb diet like I see in pictures here (burger patties, steaks, eggs, cheeses) I know I will go over my daily caloric goal to satisfy my hunger compared to when I swap out one of my meals to eat something like a bowl of fruit. But I feel like I am missing something here,I would much rather prefer this diet as I love meat, but how do you guys do It? Is there an adjustment period and your body gets used to eating 2k or less calories a day on meat? There are days I can go off fruits and vegetables and not eat more than 800 calories, but in the past when I would do only meat i noticed I could take in just a 1.2k+ calorie steak in a single sitting and be hungry again in 4 hours. Do any of you eat butter on it’s own for extra calories or to meet a desired fat ratio. I’m looking to gain some mass eating only meat and eggs with some organ meats here and there for the extra vitamins. How To Get Over Fear Of Lack of Long Term Confirmation?

Hey, I’m on the fence of at least trying the diet, as I see lots of great anecdotes and testimonial posts about the great results people have gained while on this diet. My main fears are the fact that it basically goes against everything we conventionally “know” about health in regards to nutrition. Also, there is basically no long-term research on this way of eating, and besides the few anecdotes in the community like Shawn Baker, a mod here, etc. there just isn’t that much science to back this as a long-term diet and lifestyle choice. A lot of posters here seem to be on the diet for months, but not quite even a year long. Lastly I even have fears that what if after a few months on ZC, I decide that it’s not working, and I need to eat other foods, will my digestive system, and bacteria in the gut be forever changed at that point, so I can never go back to eating a more standard diet? Just want to ease my worries, so I can possibly try ZeroCarb out.And what helped you get over the fen

Unfortunately, after that I’ve had one issue that has seemed to persist, and I was hoping someone had any experiences like this.So after maybe the 2nd month I started feeling extremely uncomfortable after having a bowel movement. Like I wasn’t done, but more wouldn’t come out. I get off the toilet, I feel like I still have to go and I am super uncomfortable and it takes all my focus away from daily life. 1-2 hours will pass, and I would try again. A second bowel movement happens. Usually it’s just back to feeling like there’s still more but it won’t come out. This isn’t constipation. I have no pains, no issue pushing it out and it’s usually soft. Everything seems normal, except the fact that I am going to the bathroom 3-4 times in the span of a few hours. The uncomfortable period can last anywhere between 2-6 hours.I hate this. I need to fix this or

Five weeks on zerocarb

It’s been five weeks since I started this WOE (37 days exactly) and I have to say… this is what I was looking for.I feel great and I don’t have any cravings besides moaaar meat. I used to eat a lot of cheese and add various spices in the beginning. In the past week I’ve been using pretty much just salt, stopped eating dairy altogether, and cut down on the processed meat – and it feels even better. I don’t need the extra flavor anymore. Bonafide Provisions Bone Broth

I have been interested about getting into bone broth after reading some of the work of Dr. Cate Shanahan (author of Deep Nutrition). She recommends Bonafide Provisions broth but I am unconvinced about it’s quality. I bought some at my local store. Once thawed it was very liquidy, like stock, whereas I would expect/want it to be more gelatinous. Part of the reason i’m looking to use it is for the benefits from collagen/gelatin for joints, skin, etc. This is my first time trying bone broth so I don’t really know what to look for or what to expect. I am open to making my own, EVENTUALLY, but for now I just want to buy it to try it. I heated the Bonafide Provisions broth on the stove and drank it in a mug. It tasted absolutely gross. What kind of condiments should I use?Should I be at all concerned that I’m having 200-300% of my daily cholesterol intake per day?Is it alright to have an orange or apple every couple days?I’m having 20-60g of carbs a day (mainly from condiments and fruit), is there a noticeable different on ZERO carbs? Or is 20-60 within an acceptable keto range?I’m loving grass fed ground beef and eggs daily, and the odd steak, what are some other meats you guys would recommend for the long haul? from Zero Carb Zebras https://ift.tt/2SelsAT via IFTTT

17 "Weird" Requests That Help People Thrive with Celiac Disease

Image
New blog post! One of the most empowering things about having celiac disease, at least in my opinion, is that our health is largely under our own control. By following a gluten free diet and learning what foods help us feel our best , we can not only live with celiac disease, but thrive! However, sometimes we need to rely on accommodations from other people to stay healthy with celiac disease…and sometimes, these necessary requests can sound a little strange at first. That’s why today’s post is talking about 17 “weird” requests that actually help people with celiac disease stay healthy! I have two goals for this post. First, if you don’t have celiac disease but know someone who does, I hope this post lets you understand the “why” behind some of their more unusual requests. And second, if you do have celiac disease, I hope this post lets you know that you should not feel embarrassed or scared of asking for accommodations that make living with celiac disease a whoooole lot easier.

[Question] AIP and rice?

I’ve just recently started the AIP for my chronic fatigue syndrome, and was wondering if rice would be okay for me to eat? I tend not to have a reaction to it and it is a large part of my diet. (asian) I know rice is not paleo, but since I’ve been eating it since birth very frequently and it is a deep part of my ancestry, would it affect the outcome of the diet if I still followed the rest of the protocol to the T? submitted by /u/monochromedenim [link] [comments] from paleo diet https://ift.tt/2AxmmkW via IFTTT

Good results from dentist today

I had a dentist appointment today and I was out the door faster than ever. I have been brushing with mostly water, occasionally with coconut oil and baking soda. I floss as well. My teeth feel better than before this diet and look whiter too. The dentist told me that my oral health was excellent. I attribute this to the lack of carbohydrates that bacteria can survive off of in my mouth biome and the addition of vitamin A, D, and K2 in my diet. Has anyone else noticed similar results? from Zero Carb Zebras https://ift.tt/2E1hb0M via IFTTT

Day 1 of our carnivore diet

Hello all, my girlfriend and I have just begun the carnivore diet. We both need to lose some weight and feel better in general. I usually cycle keto every couple months, but decided to try this path instead and see what it’s like. We are trying to cut out everything except beef and fish. We have made an exception for coffee and tea for the time being, but we will cut back and eventually stop those altogether. However we cannot decide whether or not to remove salt/pepper from the diet. I use Himalayan salt when in keto to keep electrolytes in check, but many people have suggested that it is not need for carnivore. What is the argument behind not using salt/pepper, if there are any? Also, having gone through almost 5lbs of ground beef in a day and a half, does anyone have any decent recipes for this? I was thinking of adding bacon, but we’re iffy on adding pork to the diet. Neither one of us really like pork, but many websites say it’s a good addition to ground beef. Thoughts? Finally does

Low-and-slow meat seems very underrated here?

I know the prevailing narrative here is that you want things cooked as little as safely possible, but I really feel incredible on slow-cooked, well-done meat. It’s as satisfying as a rare ribeye (and much more satisfying than ground meat/other cuts of steak), but at a tiny, tiny fraction of the cost of cuts that are both fatty and tender. Large boston butts/chuck roasts/ribs and such are the only affordable sources of fresh, fatty, whole meat that you can find widely available in conventional grocery stores.Don’t really have much to say other than that, just think those cuts deserve a lot more love than they currently get. from Zero Carb Zebras https://ift.tt/2FIZKDD via IFTTT
