Diet and depression [Question]

First-time poster. I am not currently on the Paleo diet. I’m on a high-protein, high-carb, very low-fat diet. I’ve been eating this way for my entire adult life, and I am ALWAYS depressed and tired. (I exercise daily and am at a normal weight.)

I’m shopping around for new diets to try, with an eye toward what will give me energy and cure my depression. But literally EVERY diet has its detractors. Can anyone chime in authoritatively? I’ve read that low-fat diets cause depression. I’ve read that high-fat diets cause depression. I’ve read that carbs are the problem. I’ve read that low-carb diets cause depression.

I’m intrigued by the idea of cutting out wheat from my diet (although intuitively I feel like bread makes me really happy… but overall I’m depressed, so… it just seems like SUCH a dramatic change). Is it OK to do Paleo and keep eating dairy? For the depression aspect, is wheat the real problem?

And has anyone here gone from VERY low fat to high fat & high protein… and seen their mood and energy levels lift? I’m not just talking about “I feel better because I’m proud of sticking to a challenging diet.” I’m talking about DAILY SUICIDE IDEATION gone. Thank you!
